Why would a girl lead you and other people(when you tell them what she was doing) to believe she is definitely into you and then look shocked when you ask her to dinner and give a half-hearted excuse to reject you.

Even girls I talked to said the girl had to be interested.

Who knows what may be going onin her life? She might have a boyfriend, or several! And she may just be friendly with everyone she meets, and doesn't expect tht to lead to a formal invitation to go out.

Some girls are smiling and friendly to just about everyone, flirt a little without thinking anythng about it. We Italians certainly tend to be that way, and we don't expect it to lead to anything more without getting to know each other for a while first.
