Why are white people so nosey when it comes to black people's hair? Reaching to touch it without asking...?

Sometimes they are curious, other times they're stupid and rude. And like Olivia9 said it's like they trying to humiliate you.
Here's my two experiences:
A guy from my high school class did me that (I was wearing braids at the time) and he seemed disgusted. My hair was clean and just because it's was different from the other girls in class he thought it was disgusting. I got really offended and stopped talking to him.
Now, that I'm college, another white guy touched my hair and said it's was fluffy and he like to touch it (this time I was wearing an Afro). So, my conclusion is that the first guy was rude and stupid and the second one was curious.
You should tell them that you don't like it. They may think you're weird but at least you warn them.
I'm not black (or white), but I've had that happen to me a lot. My hair's really long and wavy, and once a guy sitting behind me started braiding it in class. Awkwaaard... but later when I thought about it, I think he either liked me or was high as a kite. There's other times that people just randomly want to feel it. It can be annoying, but I just shooed their hands away if I felt bothered and tried to take it as a compliment. It's rude though, yeah. However, it's a behavior not exclusive to white people - just curious, invasive and kinda disrespectful people who can be of any race.
Same reason white people think they can say the N word, entitlement, what else? No one ever says no to them EVER, so why would they expect a person of color to prevent them from doing anything. It's just really bold. I'm biracial and have naturally curly hair and I always get that this 50 year old lady ran her fingers through it and complemented me but it's just like WTF, are you like testing me or something? What if I did wear a wig you know? It's like they try to humiliate you or "catch" you or something. So weird, just no boundaries. smh
I agree with you 100%! White people and their damn entitlement!
I know this is old but, "No. one ever says no to them..." made me think about two blogs I saw. One was by a biracial woman talkting about her experience. with a white woman touching. wanting to touch her hair. She told her no. The white woman was some distance away, so she thought the natural woman.. couldn't hear her. She called her a bitch and said she should be greatful that she
wants to touch it. The natural woman went on a rant about,. It was supposedly aired on CNN
I don't, that's just rude.
do you have dreatlocks or some other style that most white (older white) people don't have?
only reason I say dreadlocks is because I see very few white people with that style hair and prob don't know how to ask for it at a barber shop/hair stylist place.
Just put your hand up to stop them and say "scuse me this is [insert hair style here] if you want to touch it please ask a barber to give you one."
I've never seen it, I wish I was surprised, but when I think about it, I guess I'm not.
Some of my cousins used to live in a country with very few white people a few decades ago, and people would pinch them to see if the white came off.
Moral of the story: there are some freakishly rude people of all races.

This has never happened to me.
But I can relate to this but with a totally different scenario.
When I was pregnant, people (I barely knew, even strangers) would start rubbing my belly without even asking my permission.
IT IS RUDE!
It is very disrespectful.
If I really want to touch someones hair, or belly I will ask.
How does basic manners fly out of the window?
Did these people ever have manners to begin with?
I feel you on this 100 percent.
Carry mace with you, that should teach them. In 2013 who thinks its OK to put their hands on another human being without permission?
Is that normal to go around touching people? Who in the hell does that?
The only people who touch me without permission are old people looking for affection. (hugs, handshakes, est.)
I've mostly had men put their hands on me (without my permission) in public, and they've ALL gotten maced or more. Adults should know better.
Hmm I think since white people's hair acts pretty differently than black people's, they're just intrigued by it. It's still incredibly rude to touch anyone without their permission.
If they really are so interested in your hair it would make a lot more sense to just say "wow, you have an awesome hairstyle!" and leave it at that...
Does that really happen? I've never seen it. I went to a school that was a little over half black, and I've never saw any white people reaching to touch a black person's hair. I've heard people ask a couple of times. I will say that.
Though a couple of girls asked to touch my hair and one was begging me to let her cut a piece out of it. It's probably obvious, but I declined the latter.
it's interesting,it's different to what we're used to,we're human-we're curious. if you feel uncomfortable-speak up,they'll realize they're being rude, just be nice about it or you'll seem sensitive.
I don't understand that. If you're curious about something isn't it normal to simply ASK? I've never lived anywhere, that people go around touching strangers because they are curious. I've had women ask where I got clothes, or more purse, They never grab it or touch it because they are curious. I don't understand why someone would do that, or think that is normal behavior.
Hmm...I'm mixed and girls of all races, mostly black, often touch my hair to see if I have tracks or weave on. I've even been told I look like I'm wearing a wig because it's too black or too perfect. Anyways, my point is, I'm sure white people aren't the only ones who've touched your hair out of curiosity, so stop generalizing. I get that it can be annoying at times, but just take it as a compliment and go on with your day.
I've never randomly touched a stranger's hair.
I didn't realize this was an issue, haha!
i have curiosity towards it but I wouldn't do that.
maybe because we are used to our hair and we obviously know black hair requires different care
I can't say I've ever done it nor have I ever noticed. I'm sure it happens...just never seen it.
haha why would people do htat, well I always get weird things like that too becasue I have a twin. people seme to think they can ask very private quesitons and get an asnwe.r
Stupid comes in all colors
LOL, it is always funny to touch a weave and watch her FREAK out.
Until she starts punching you...
...wow! Can you please stop making white men look like entitled, ignorant, prejudice a**holes? Not every black female on the planet wears weave, dumb ass. White women wear weave too such as Sammi from Jersey Shore. White people have a reputation for being ignorant, prejudice pieces of sh*t because people like you make the look bad.
