I think at the point where there is literal s--t coming form an anus on your cake or you're inviting your guests to enjoy your severed heads (and it's not Halloween), you've gone to far... all else, maybe I can rationalize with context.

It's really in poor taste in my personal opinion whether it's "just food" or not. I cannot imagine presenting my grandmother with a slice of my eyeball or pieces of s--t on a plate. I just have more respect for her, and my family and friends in general not to get carried away with "that fun idea I had that one time."
