17, I guess. It was New Years Day, and I was just minding my own business at work. I knew some of my co-workers were partying in the lunchroom, but I didn't care, I was actually doing my job. One of the co-workers came looking for me, and he was holding a small bottle of whiskey. He handed it to me and said, "Take a drink", so I took a sip, didn't really like it, and tried to hand it back. He said, "Take another drink", so I took a second sip, and tried to hand it back. He said, "Take another drink." I could tell he was getting quite amused with all this, but I'd had enough, and said, "No, I'm done". He then took his bottle and went back to the party.

+1 yI was 12 and drank for years. It’s only in America you get bonded with thoughts it’s illegal and that woman must wear tops at beach’s etc Only about the money 💰 in America
I never had problem with drinking or my kids drinking. You can instill trust and teach them when they should now a limit. Most of my friends also started same time and now Mothers against drunk drivers has gotten involved with age limits crazy 😜 but when a state or country says you an adult at 17 go to jail not juvenile or join military to die they say you can’t drink til 21 and some trying to make it higher. Trust me it’s all about the money now00 Reply
Wow!!! I was 28 when I had my first alcoholic drink. I went with co-workers for a “Happy Hour Time” since I didn’t have any clue what was the “Happy Hour” 😂. They lied to me!! They told me that it was Food Discount!! Lol... I drank 1 margarita and a half and I was already DRUNK !! Unforgettable!!! 🙈🙊🙉... Waiters came to our table and sang HAPPY BIRTHDAY and place on my head a Mexican Sombrero 😂 It was really funny!

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 y16ish I think. Maybe 15. My girl friend took a little bit of each type of alcohol her parents had in their cabinet, and poured them all together into one canning jar and brought it over. She was smart to do it that way, but man, what a disgusting concoction. I was pleasantly surprised how much better alcohol actually tasted when you have it the normal way!

+1 yFake first time: I would my first sip when I was 9 years old, my father would mix rum and coke and I would think it's just coke. I would inmmidiatly stop drinking after the first sip. First real time I have a full glass of an alcoholic drink would be 14. Legal age in my country is 18. Most people start drinking before 18, though.

+1 yI think I was 14. I live in Canada. The drinking age depends on the province. Either 18 or 19. Most police around here don’t really care about underage drinking as long as you have a safe way to get home. Most bars and pubs won’t allow anyone under 18 or 19 in though.

I was 15 and I felt euphoria from drinking it; I had snuck a little at a huge party. It felt like all my problems went away, just immediately snapping out of existence.
It was amazing and terrifying because after the alcohol wore off I had felt little to no emotional pain for a few weeks to the point I was afraid my pain had morphed to apathy, yet I was seemingly furious with myself that this was so easy for me to have to make me feel so much better.
Now I feel even more depressed. :D21 Reply- +1 y
I wonder if you are misinterpreting the experience, and making it into more of a negative than it needs to be.
The last thing I am going to do is encourage you, at 15, to go drinking some more. But I do think it is a good sign that, at least for a bit of time, you felt lighter, happier, and that your world was not heavy or crashing down around you. Maybe you got a glimpse of what contentment feels like?
The chemical effects of alcohol don't stay in the blood stream for more than a few hours, maybe 12 hrs tops (just estimating), but the feelings that come from changing your thought patterns, from broadening your mind (either through introduced chemicals, natural brain-formed chemicals, or real life experiences like novel things, or meeting someone who you really like, etc. etc.)... these all are a good things. The mind is a delicate, yet powerful thing. Change can happen abruptly, or slowly over time. I have hope for you that you saw a glimmer of happiness. Now you just have to find how to recreate that in healthy ways.

+1 y15 hated the taste, yes tried different types but still hated the taste, but I drank to be a part of the group. When I was around 17 I decided the disguising taste was not worth it (NO it was NOT a religious thing) so just stopped drinking and never went back. In the past 20 some years I have maybe 8 drinks. Sorry still hate the taste but thats me.

+1 yUmm I used to secretly drink my godfathers beer whenever he wasn't watching when I was like 7 or 8 years old. Funny enough, now that I'm an adult I cannot stand the taste of beer and only drink it mixed.
The first time I drank enough to become a bit tipsy I was... 21 I think? Keep in mind, I'm from Germany so the drinking age here is 16 for beer and wine and 18 for everything else.10 ReplyI tasted alcohol as a child but had my full first drink in my twenties. I had no desire to get drunk and I didn't like the taste. I started drinking on my first trip to Europe when I first had real beer. Now, good beer is commonplace in the US but nothing decent was available back then.

+1 yWhen I was really little, probably 5 or less, my mom let me have a sip of wine because I kept bugging her to taste it. The first drink I remember having was a glass of red wine at 18, and I've tried sips of other drinks since then, but I don't like the taste of alcohol.

Edit: I was in Costa Rica, and the legal drinking age is 18 there. In Canada, where I live, it's 18 or 19 depending on the province.
+1 yIt's hard to tell. Around 6-7 is when I remember my first drink, but my grandparents lived with us and they damn near constantly drank highballs (whiskey with ginger ale or soda). I had a bad habit of going around taking sips from people's drinks when they weren't looking. So who knows.
Also, when I was an adult my parents admitted to slipping some bourbon into my drink before bed, when I was sick and on Christmas Eve. Who knows when they started doing that.00 Reply
+1 yIt was my 9th birthday actually lol. I grew up in Honduras, and that first drink sent me down a path of alcoholism that I struggled to get out of. I'm out now though thankfully.

+1 yHmm... 12? 13? Something like that. My family has a really lax attitude about drinking, but my parents (aunts, uncles, and their parents as well) are/were pretty much alcoholics. My siblings and I have actually been insistent about staying away from the stuff in life.
00 ReplyI was 19/20 and I drink alcohol because of peer pressure. I don’t anymore. And any person who doesn’t respect my wishes would be out of my life. I dislike alcohol and I find it nasty.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yI was 16 when I tried vodka for the first time, but I hated it and could only manage a sip or two. The only time I publicly broke the law when it came to drinking was when I had a tequila shot at a restaurant at age 18. I was so worried they were going to ask for my ID and find out that I wasn’t yet 19 (the legal drinking age in Ontario)!

20 Reply 317 opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. 16 or 17. My mom had bought some little bottles of mixed drinks, and gave the OK to have one or two. Don't remember catching a buzz until at a later time I drank a Vodka and Orange Juice. That one had me feeling pretty good.
