+1 yI'm not really sure. When I was a kid, dad had me try a sip of his beer a couple times. I hated it! Around `69 or `70, there was a big Christmas party going on here and I remember watching "2001: A Space Odyssey" on the local ABC channel and my aunt asked me if I wanted a creme de menthe. at first, I said no but, she talked me into it so, I had one. I liked it and had at least one more. Decades later (in the past few years, or so) she told me it was just mint ginger ale! I don't know! I've had LOTS of that since then and it never tasted like what she gave me that night!
In the late `80's, we were playing a new years gig at the Penguin Pub in Youngstown when Butch, the bartender, whipped out a case of champagne at midnight and offered a glass to me. He talked me into trying it so, I took a sip and it's nothing but over-glorified beer!
Also in the late `80's, there was another Christmas party going on at my other aunt's house and grandma insisted I have a shot of Schnapps with her. I refused but she talked me into it. I tried 3 flavours and didn't exactly like any of them. A few months later, my brother & I went to a local bar just to hang out and talk to the bar wench he told me that if you put ice in root beer Schnapps, it tastes just like a root beer float so, I tried one. IT DID! So, he bought me a few more and I tossed them down. A few months later, I went to the same bar and found my singer and guitarist sitting there and they bought me a few more. I started noticing I was getting forgetful so, I never had another.
And, about 5 or 8 years ago, I was trying to make something to kill dandelions with and thought I should add some 100 proof vodka to the mix. It withered them during the night but, the next day, they were back in full force begging for more!! I've often wondered what vodka tastes like so, I got a shot glass, poured enough to cover the very bottom of the glass and drank one single drop of it and didn't want anymore!! That's my entire drinking history!10 Reply

+1 yI was 18 (state legal minimum at the time) and it was old granddad bourbon. It wasn't something I bought, but a gift friends brought over for a much celebrated birthday.
... Only I was a novice. I drank on an empty stomach. So my friends told me to eat something with it, so I ate cheez doodles! They also said I needed a chaser. All I had was coke. I polished off nearly 3/4 of the bottle.
Later, I "painted" the walls a sickly orange/brown color. I was comatose for 24 hours. Woke up with no hangover. My mom and her boyfriend came back from their vacation abroad, wondering why I wasn't in school. That's when I figured out I was asleep for 24 hours. I slept all through Sunday.
I could not go near cheez doodles, or any liquor for 7 years without turning green.28 Reply- +1 y

I was 17 a little over a year ago🙈. My 3 older brothers took me out to celebrate my graduation and ordered a glass of wine for me (mind you where I live the drinking age is 18😉). Anyways they said they wanted me to know my limits before going out and drinking when I got to university🙄.
In essence I got w-a-s-t-e-d even after several glasses of water😅😅10 Reply
+1 yFirst taste, my dad let me have a sip of his beer when I was 4 cause I kept bugging him. Hated it! First actual drink I was 12. I found one of my mom's wine bottles and got curious. I chugged maybe half the bottle. I got drunk and instead of grounding me, my mom waited till I was at the hangover portion to make ALL THE NOISE IMAGINABLE

10, I think. It was red wine. Back then there was no such bullshit as "minors can't drink alcohol" or "parents can't allow alcohol to their children" like in America, so many of my generation grew up drinking alcohol. What's funny is that none of us ended up being an alcoholic - contrary to the common belief that we would.
But nowadays my country copied that too (like many other nonsense) from USA and now a minor can't go and buy an alcoholic beverage from the store without a parental supervision.11 Reply
+1 yWhen I was a kid, following the weekend prayer services I went to with my Dad they would put on these wine and cake buffets most times. I was about 6 or 7 when i had my first glass of wine.. VERY small glass.
I know there are people out there who would be horrified at that, but let me elaborate. If you teach a child there are no taboos to drinking, most level headed kids will never have a yearning for it and become alcoholics.10 ReplyI was 17 at the time, in my first job and two of the lads I worked with took me out one Friday night and got me absolutely slaughtered on larger. Towards the end of the night we to a Fish and chip shop and they bought me a bag chips and made me eat them. Oh boy ! The next morning I had a head like a badgers arse, and ended up driving the porcelain express.
It put me off drinking, I hardly touch the stuff these days.10 ReplyPretty sure like 10 or 11 but thought it was gross then went back to when I was like 15 and partied pretty hard. Made my own shot, Malibu Rum and Barcardi (forgot what flavor the bacardi was) but everybody who came over always brought it so I can make them shots.

+1 yWas probably around 13 for me, found a can of beer and tried it, was disgusting... apparently, my mom was using it to wash her hair or something and that is how I got busted. I have no idea why she would do that.
The real ones came later when I was in mid 20's with friends.10 Reply
+1 yI was 7 or 8 & I accidently mistook my glass of sparking grape juice and ended up drinking a glass of Bernadino wine instead and wondered why I wasn't feeling great. I didn't have an alcoholic drink again till I was about 17 at my sisters 2st party at home.

Anonymous(18-24)+1 yMy aunt said when there were reunions at home and someone left a glass on the coffee table, I would try to drink and I did a couple of times. But, since I don't remember that, I'll say my first was a bottle of beer I stole from my parents when I was 12 and hid it in the closet.
10 Reply321 opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. Around 5 or 6 can't remember really but it was a slip of ny grandmother's sherry at Christmas, really quite liked it. +1 yMaybe five my biological Dad believed if I was old enough to hold a beer can then I was a man and therefore was old enough to drink from a beer can. He also believed that firecrackers were an appropriate gift from me at that age. Him and Mom disagreed on a lot of things

Nothing against it, just not something I care to try right now. People thought I was weird in college because that was like a "rite of passage" once you turned 21. Nope, no interest in it.10 Reply
