Do you guys think that I would like Nigerian food?

Question

I’ve never had African food before but I want to try Jollof rice, fufu, and egusi soup. I don’t like Dominican food which is non spicy but I love spicy food everyone online says it’s good but also every Dominican says that sancocho is good so I don’t know who to trust lol

Okay, now I know you asked about Nigerian specifically, but here's a map depicting Africa, using other countries for size comparison:

Do you see how this makes it kind of silly to talk about "African food"? Africa is a *continent*, and the second largest one, at that; it has a HUGE range of climates and biomes, and consequently, plants, animals, and conditions that'd produce wildly different flavors and cuisines (it's also an interesting setting for various things, but that's another issue). If you go to eastern Texas, you'll hear talk about how superior Texan-style barbecue is to Arkansan, and vice versa if you go to Arkansas; spend too much time bouncing between the two, and you'll likely die of sparerib poisoning, but you'll die HAPPY. The distance between those two is NOTHING on the distance between pretty much any two countries in Africa.

Unfortunately, I don't know much about Nigerian food, so I can't answer directly, but if you're in a decent-sized city, it shouldn't be too hard to find a Nigerian restaurant, and go and try some things. They may even have a sampler of some kind, so you can try and a bunch of stuff to see what you like. Go forth and taste the world!

For one, it depends on who/how it was prepared. Jollof might be the closest thing to what you might be familiar with cus it's practically Mexican rice and if it's prepared well you're gonna love it. Egusi soup might be an acquired taste tho because you may not be familiar with the taste of egusi. But ultimately, if you genuinely are open to trying something new, I'd say you should try either or both of them and I'd recommend jollof first. Furthermore, you might have friends recommending/hyping up a particular restaurant to get them from and that's okay but note that that's just one person's interpretation of the dish so if it tastes terrible you must remember there are better one out there within/out of your reach. I say this because from experience, you learn that though jollof and egusi has a particular look and set of main ingredients, there are a variety of customized jollof or egusi recipes that will knock your socks off

Jollof is good, especially if it spicy. There is also Fried rice. Jollof and Fried rice are at every Nigerian party. 😂

Egusi soup is ok. It is not my go to when I want to make soup. 😅
Maybe it is because my mother made it so much growing up. 😂
Ogbono soup, and Okra soup are really good.

There are different kinds of fufu.
There is Plantain fufu, Pounded Yam fufu, Amala, Garri etc.
Plantain fufu and Pounded Yam are good. Garri is also good, but it is a bit sour, if you chew it while eating with soup. 😂
Amala is ok, too. My family doesn’t cook it, tho. I have only had it at parties.

I love Nigerian food and it’s very spicy 🥵
start with something simple like Jollof Rice & Suya Chicken Wings
also the dishes you mentioned are made by other countries like Ghana so you might prefer it from one or the other. I personally don’t like how people from Ghana make Jollof rice it was too dry for me.

I tried it once and it wasn’t flavourless but contrasted with my Chinese tastes. As a Chinese person, I like foods that are traditional to our diet like salt and soy sauce and black vinegar and not mixing sugar with salt but only vinegar etc…

I have to agree with you. For some strange reason Dominicans don't like to cook with spice or not enough of it.  I have to put spice in my food because my grandma or mom don't use enough of it.
