I get it that a lot of people don't like Indian food, brand it as too spicy and stuff. But in most cases, the Indian restaurants in the west are hardly authentic. India is culturally very diverse and there are thousands of dishes except curries. A large section of Indians can't even tolerate high spice content in their food, so overspiced food is highly stereotypical.
You can talk about your likes and dislikes or ask about recipes, history, and ingredients too.
