1.7K opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. I use a French press. They are inexpensive, last forever, don't take up room or use electricity.
When I get up in the morning, I just put coffee in the press for my preferred strength. I put a kettle of water on the stove and do other things for the couple minutes it takes to heat. Then I pour it into the press once it is hot.
At that point, I give the grounds a bit of a stir to make sure every grain releases it's contents. I then do other things for five minutes or so while the coffee steeps. Then I press down on the handle to filter the grounds, and pour.
The press makes 24 ounces (3 cups). I use three measured scoops of grounds for the first pot.
I get ground Cafe Justo robusto dark roast coffee in 5 lb bags that seal up really tightly to keep the coffee fresh. The bags cost me $38 and last me 3-4 months, which comes out to between $0.30 and $0.40 a day for three to six cups a day.
I pour the contents of the press into two 12 oz travel cups with sippy lids. I usually add about a level tsp of Equal Exchange hot coco mix and stir it well. And then add a bit of cold whole mild to cool it off enough to drink right away.
I sometimes make a second pot by adding one more scoop of fresh grounds to the ones that are still in the press.
I pour the used grounds into a plastic container and, every few days, dump them in my flower bed as fertilizer. The press couldn't be easier to clean. I just rinse it out.
Both the Cafe Justo coffee and Equal Exchange coco are naturally grown and 100% free if chemicals and artificial fertilizers by indigenous co-ops who make all the profit from sales. No corporations are involved and the products couldn't be better quality.
I produce zero waste when I make my coffee and my garden benefits.
I buy 5 lb of coco at a time that comes in two 2 1/2 lb plastic bags. They last for a really long time. I do have to eventually dispose of the plastic coffee and coco bags. That's the only waste.00 Reply

Anonymous(25-29)+1 yHere is a recipe for making coffee at home using a Moka pot:
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1/3 cup of coffee grounds
- Milk and sugar (optional)
Instructions:
1. Fill the bottom chamber of the Moka pot with cold water up to the valve.
2. Add the coffee grounds to the filter basket and place it into the bottom chamber.
3. Screw the top chamber onto the bottom chamber, making sure it's securely in place.
4. Place the Moka pot on a stove burner set to medium-high heat.
5. Wait for the coffee to start brewing and listen for a hissing sound, which indicates that the coffee is ready.
6. Once the coffee is brewed, remove the Moka pot from the stove and pour the coffee into your cup.
7. Add milk and sugar to taste (optional).

It's actually best to use boiling water for moka pot! Better pressure ☺️
Opinion Owner+1 yThank you for the information! You are correct that some coffee enthusiasts recommend using boiling water to make coffee with a Moka pot, as it can create better pressure and more consistent results. However, it's worth noting that this method can also be more challenging to master, as it requires precise timing and heat control to avoid over-extraction or burnt flavors.
Ultimately, the best method for making coffee with a Moka pot may depend on personal preference, brewing equipment, and the specific coffee beans being used. It's always a good idea to experiment with different brewing techniques and adjust according to taste and desired strength.

Sometimes I put just freshly grind coffee powder in a big cup and pour water over it without any filtering. I have two Bodum coffee presses in different sizes, I never used them.00 Reply
+1 yI've a drip coffee maker which I just prepare in the evening & then I've freshly made coffee when I get up.
I also have a pod - or pillow coffee machine but that shit has gotten expensive so it's packed away at the moment.
And then I've a french press which I use on my off days where I often froth up some milk and where I can sit and enjoy my coffee.

+1 yAfter having tried different ways to make coffee, like the moka pot, instant Nescafé, and having tasted the coffee made by all kinds of machines, the best taste I ever got is making the coffee as my grandmother used to do: a filter with the coffee grounded, and pouring hot water... Really, I know what I'm talking about. By the way, there's still another method to make coffee, similar to what's done in Greece, Turkey and Ethopia: a plain pot with boiling water, pouring the grounded coffee in it, having it rise three times (by taking the pot off the fire), and left a few minutes rest. To my taste this is the second best kind of coffee. Sometimes I use the moka pot, which is just all right, but not best. Let's still not forget that the origin of the coffee is very important, and that maybe a particular kind of coffee needs a particular preparation.

+1 yI make mud/wtr, a coffee alternative my mom introduced me to. You can get a subscription on their website or app. I have them send me the black can of their grounds every 30 days.
You just put some of the grounds in a mug, pour hot water into it, use one of the electric mixers they send you in your first box, I like to add coffee creamer to it before I mix it. It froths up and tastes just like coffee but without the jitteriness and addiction. It gives me enough focus to get through the day.00 ReplyDrip is old fashioned... and the only one I- o wait, I know how to do the keurig one with the pods. I guess I can't afford a keurig and prefer the old fashioned way. Also if you give me instant coffee, I'm spitting in at your walls and ask wtf is this shi
00 ReplyWe have instant, a drip coffee machine, and a French press. We mostly use the French press for tea though. While it's cold and we want hot coffee, we use the drip coffee machine most. Once it gets hot and I start preferring cold coffee, I use the instant most.

+1 yI don't because coffee is something I only drink when I'm at a café, and even then I don't often drink coffee. I drink coffee like 10 times a year or so. But when I have someone over at my place who want's a coffee, I use a moka pot to make it.
00 ReplyI'm the only coffee drinker, so i grinde the coffee myself and make it in a Bialetti Mokka thing. I put boiled water instead of cold. That give more flavor.
