In Bohemia, for a long time, ground coffee was poured into a mug and just poured hot water over it. It was sweetened to taste and that's how it was drunk. It was called "Turkish coffee", but I doubt that any Turk ever saw or drank it. Only relatively recently did people start making drip coffee at home or people started having coffee making machines.
I believe that a great number of people nowadays have a coffee machine at home. I do and that is about the only type of coffee I drink. I don't want to spend time pouring ground coffee in a pot with a filter and then heat up water and pour that water in that filter to let the water seep through, drop by drop.
I do remember my great grandmother grinding her coffee with an antique manual grinder with a handle she would turn around and around while the ground coffee dropped into a drawer. It would take her 10 minutes to grind one portion of coffee.

I still have that wooden mill from my grandmother as a decoration in my kitchen. But otherwise it still works :-)

3 moOMG, Alia is a part of my 3-word-name lol.
And my country is more known for tea but filter coffee is really popular in South India because of all the coffee plantation there.
Well, I'm a student and whenever I need caffeine then I just eat a spoonful of coffee powder straight out of the container. Bitter but does the work.

Indian tea is of course a global concept. Even though I buy tea here mainly from Georgia. Eating instant coffee directly with a spoon is a good little crime. But I'm not criticizing it. I sometimes use a spoon for dried coffee creamer :-)))

Coffee creamers are fire by themselves, can't blame you lol.
3 moI think in the United States most people use a drip maker. Pod coffee has become a lot more populated over the last 15-20 years, but I'm pretty sure it's still a minority. A French Press is used by some people, but it's a distant third. I have a French press but don't use it.
When I was young, percolated coffee was very popular but you never hear about that any more. I have an old antique percolator that still works. I keep meaning to try it but haven't done it yet."Instant coffee" was popular for a while, but not any more.

It's by far the most common method of brewing coffee in the world.
I would like to try Kaffeost, as well as a few other varieties that stick to being coffee drinks, and not milk drinks that add a slight flavoring of coffee.
No hazelnut creamers near me, please.10 Reply

In my country today, most people use simple electric drip machines or capsule machines at home ☕
Ground coffee goes into a paper or metal filter, water tank is filled, and the machine does the rest.
Some still use a moka pot on the stove, and younger coffee lovers often prefer pour-over, AeroPress or French press, especially for better beans and lighter roasts.11 Reply- 3 mo

In our country, an automatic coffee machine is still quite expensive. But many people already have a lever coffee maker. Or at least they have a French press like me.

In recent years, capsule coffee machines have been spreading like mold in the bathroom :-)))

I'm not picky about the brand of coffee - I prefer the regular Jihlavanka brand (you might also know it in Poland), but I need bean, ground coffee anyway. In a pinch, I can even use instant, but only if there's nothing else. And I see the capsules as a passing fad that will soon disappear.

I buy 1kg Segafredo Intermezzo it doesn't taste especially good brewed in a cup but it taste good in Automatic Coffee Maker.
Most coffees, especially whole been coffees are aromatized with artificial aroma and smell much better than they taste.
Real good coffee smells while brewing very intense 50 m against the wind. - 3 mo
I have the same experience. Segafredo or Lavazza are great from a coffee machine, but not very good prepared without one.
Years ago on a mission in Afghanistan I tasted the local coffee with cardamom and I like that too and sometimes I add cardamom to my coffee at home
Most use machines that grind and boil water.
Older sometimes use old machines with coffee filter, powder that needs some time until the water ia heated and ran through the filter.
People that dont drink much coffee use pad machines as Philipps Senseo.
Some people go outside in a café for coffee & cake. In good café are used professional Barista machines.12 Reply- 3 mo
Thank you very much. I go to Germany sometimes (I have part of my family there).
3 moMy mother's family is from Brno. I was raised in the USA. When I first went to visit my grandmother in Brno, she gave me some of her coffee. I felt as if I had coffee flavored mud! Over the years though I've learned to appreciate it.

So you're Czech-American? Great! It's clear that the first greeting must have been a shock for you in every way. I've never been to the USA, but I spent a lot of time serving with the guys in the Texas National Guard who were here with us. And so I know how shocked some were - for the first time in their lives outside the USA and right in such a mess in the Czechia :-)))
Most people probably in a capsule machine or the standart coffee machiene with filters.

Yes, coffee capsules are the plague of our time :-)))
3 moI use a plunger when I have time. It gives a fresher flavour than filter. If I don't have time then it is instant powdered coffee.
As for the country as a whole, office workers at least often drop large amounts on daily espresso from cafes.
10 Reply380 opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. Plunger are fairly popular. A glass jar you put the ground coffee in the put the plunger which has a closely fitting wire mesh to strain the coffee. An upgraded Greek coffee variant.

I also have a French press at home. What I like about it is that it's basically just a more civilized version of our old preparation method - coffee poured over hot water, only the grounds are separated by that mesh.
3 moI would bet a lot of people in america at home are prob using really terrible keurig pods. If it's more than pressing a button it's too difficult nowadays, or they think they have zero time. I like making it a lot of ways because it's a hobby for me. Espresso machine, moka pot, pour over, french press. Whatever my mood is. Lately I've been making espresso at home.

People do all sorts of silly shit with their coffee now. I only make or drink 1 cup at a time and do what you said- Put boiling hot water and coffee in a cup, stir it up, let it sit for a minute, and then pour it through a filter with a thing like this that says on to of the cup

2 moI think drip coffee makers still rule the market in the USA. POD machines like Keurig had their 15 minutes of fame but, cost of the pods and reliability issues with the machines have seen pods losing popularity.
High end combination espresso, and coffee machines are a very small market. And the old fashioned percolators are still around but also a very small market today.

3 moDad would just pull out a spoonful from the jar, put that in his cup, ad a spoon or 2 of sugar, pour boiling water into his cup, stir it around and either drink it like that or add a touch of milk.

3 moI would say most people either use instant or have some kind of coffee machine, generally some form of pod machine like nespresso

I personally don't mind instant coffee, but I have several friends who wouldn't drink it and one of them is literally allergic to those 2in1 and 3in1 bags.
