Would you eat the canned meat SPAM? Yes or no, why or why not?

Since Spam is such a popular food to eat for the people in Hawaii, maybe it's not so bad. It is common to see Spam on menu's in Restaurants in Hawaii.

Personally I like it because I cook it right. I fry mine in a pan that makes grill marks on the slices, and fried until crispy. Tastes good with eggs too.

At some of the grocery stores in my neighborhood they keep the SPAM under lock and key since food prices went up. I keep several cans to use in case of an emergency.

Yes! I have many times!! Nothing wrong with it but, I prefer Treet, it's less salty. Most often, I just slice it down and fry it in butter and then chase it with Rice-a-Roni. I know we used to grate it for some other kind off meal but I can't recall what, at the moment, Pizza-burgers? Or, bread it and fry it that way. Haven't had either of those in a LONG time!!

I really like it grilled, either along with breakfast instead of bacon or sausage, on a sandwich for lunch.

I rarely eat it. But for that reason, when I do, it's a treat.
I always have at least one can in the cupboard.

It was invented by Hormel in 1937 and the original ingredients haven't changed. So it isn't mystery meat and doesn't have a list of chemical ingredients. Although new products have been added - "Lite", 25% less sodium, Turkey, Bacon, Hickory smoke.

Pork with ham, salt, water, potato starch, sugar, and sodium nitrite.

"To make SPAM, the ground-up pork and ham are mixed with the other ingredients for 20 minutes. When the mixture reaches the proper temperature, it’s put into the cans, which are vacuum-sealed. The cans are cooked and then cooled for three hours, after which they’re ready for their labels. And that’s all there is to it!"

It's not like the chemical shit show that passes for meat in fast food outlets.

As long as the can is not damaged, you can safely eat SPAM long after the best-by date. However, it really does start to lose quality over time. Ideally, you should eat the SPAM no more than 2 or 3 years past its best-by date.

I eat spam sometimes. For me, it depends on how it's prepared. I like to eat it in a grilled cheese. I'll cut the meat up and put it on the cheese, so it cooks into the cheese. It tastes kind of like hamburger helped that way.

Grew up in the hometown of SPAM so it was actually the sixth food group everyone around there grew up with. Grilled, fried, baked, straight from the can, ALL GREAT!!!

Some favorites, baked SPAM and scalloped potatoes, fried SPAM, egg & cheese sandwiches, and Tuna Helper using SPAM instead.

Yes, it goes on sale sometimes, the shelf life is insane, so I stock up on it for hurricanes sometimes. If you fry it with pretty much any fruit and eat it the taste is pretty good, though the consistency leaves a lot to be desired.

Yes, I like SPAM in the can and I grill mine too and make it with eggs. Around in Pennsylvania, USA, the stores keep it on shelves and some food pantries will give it for free.

My boyfriend had SPAM that wasn't for his first experience with it as you did. But when I sliced it into like little steaks and fried up until crispy, he was hooked on it. I couldn't get him to stop eating it 😋 I hope you enjoy it after you have sliced it and fry it.

SPAM is really good. SPAM and eggs, SPAM and fried potatoes, SPAM diced up in macaroni and cheese, SPAM and tomato sandwich, SPAM burger, SPAM is very adaptable and I eat a lot of it.

@ your update @sage2021 , i didn't use to be a prepper. like a doomsday prepper. But since covid and biden taking office, i have stocked up on food, water, ammunition and weapons. I have about a year worth of shelf stable food stored and potable water.. And you dont wanna know about the guns and ammo. But lets just say i am well prepared. Of that food supply, a portion of it is spam lol.

I have stockpiled food as well. I finished a portion of my basement and loaded it up with shelf units and food. I have many gallon jugs of water as well. I started this because the supermarkets did not stoch ordinary items that we use a lot so we started stockpiling. Then as we watched the fabric of our civilization unravel it was really not hard to imagine being holed up in our house with my shotgun across my lap waiting for them to try and breach my residence.
