I must have asked one of my teachers in grade school this question. I think she told me that the hamburger was invented in Hamburg, Germany. I do not know if she was telling me the truth

Hamburgers are American but burgers have been eaten in Europe since Roman times. The difference is the bread let's you eat it by hand. I wonder if ham simply means hand as in hamfisted.

Because it's from Germany. Hamburg steak is a dish they ate and later on that became our (American's) hamburgers. 🍔 I love both of them.
