Do you like canned meat?

The only canned meat I ever buy is tins of tuna for sandwiches or tins of corned beef if I'm making corned beef and potato pie. I just don't get the point of things like Spam or tinned ham and definitely think things lke canned meatballs or tins of chilli are just plain wrong. You can even get meat pies and meat puddings you cook in the tin.

I get tinned meat was important 50 years ago but today we've all got fridges and it's only a short trip to the shop so why do we cling on to tinned meat? What's the point of tinned ham? It's already been cured and got a shelf life of months.

Yes I do. I like fried SPAM slices cut kind of thin, and a little crispyness around the edges.

I did like tuna but because it contains mercury in each can I don't eat it anymore.
Mercury is a heavy metal and I believe it is accumulative in the human body.
Albacore is the worst tuna as far as mercury content goes

I do like the little cans of canned chicken with the devil on the package. I can't remember the name of it, but it's more like a chicken spread that goes good on crackers.

I had spam last month for the first time in decades. Took me right back to toasted sandwiches my father made us under the disapproving eye of my mother. It was low sodium and still tasted like it was pure salt. The consistency of a jellyfish. No flavor. I question the protein level too. In the end I feel like I have preserved myself for another year of life with just one can.

Although I now and then buy canned vegetables, in the field of meat I'm rather reluctant. I never buy stuff like corned beef for instance, first because I don't like the taste of those canned products, and more practically, I have a few excellent butchers around my place. Very occasionally to be honest, I still buy canned cassoulet, which contains beans and meat of course, mind not of the best quality the meat, but when I'm too lazy to cook, sometimes this comes in handy.

I'm trying to learn how to waterbath meatballs in sauce at home. Proper, traditional food, canned at home, has all the nutrients left in it that it had a century ago.

Modern processed meats and other foods retain the majority of minerals and vitamins.

I look at it like this: if there's an apocalypse or even just a long-term power grid failure, how will I increase my odds of survival? There's nothing more debilitating that fruit cocktail on a plastic spoon. The mere smell of meat will optimize your primal prowess.

I prefer stuff fresh - or self made.
But in some cases such as Corned Beef -you mentioned it- I don't have the equipment, patience or skills... so I use it as it's presented - and that's usually in a can.

I don’t think the word like and canned meat really go together.  what they do have is a good shelf life of about 5 years. These are the staple diet of Apocalypse survivalists.

I grew up on SPAM, but haven't had it in years. Canned tuna is occasionally used now, typically for tuna fish salad sandwiches.

Now meatballs are definitely wrong but chilli is alright. I do a bit of outdoors stuff and bury things like a fox for future needs, I don't mind grilled spam or bacon grill and some of that stuff but only on fire outdoors usually unless it's a few years old and needs using up lol 😆

Corned beef reminds me of my childhood and I'll forever love the taste regardless of how unhealthy it might be. If tuna also counts, then I love that too.

My mother used to home can meats , vegetables and fruits. Canned pork was the greatest. Only needed to warm it, or not, to eat it!
