How can I pack food living in my car & save money on food help?

My mom moved to a senior apartment 1 hour and 20 min away from my job. I put Gas full tank $35 and it’s gone in 2 days. I used to live 15-20 min away from my job & only put gas 1 time a wk. But my mom didn’t want live there anymore. I’m 27 and never had a boyfriend so it’s just a fantasy have a boy want live with me.
I have to live in my car this wk as I start work, as I refuse drive daily to moms far city & put Gas daily in my car.
but food is expensive. And I have eggs at home Turkey , I cud easily eat that all week for breakfast even for dinner too pack sandwhiches or tacos but in my car I have no fridge.
nothing costs $1 . Only fast food tacos or burritos might cost $1.99 but I get sick of eating that daily , like Taco Bell or del taco. It’s not healthy either.
so what can I do?

You aren’t going to have many options for fold storage if refrigeration is required so you might need to just live off of peanutbutter sandwiches for a week if you refuse to make the commute. If you want to save money that badly, you’ll have to sacrifice the turkey and eggs.


If it’s only for a week, I would bite the bullet and take the commute to mom’s. I had to do that when my roommate got exposed to covid and had no other place to stay than my mother’s, who lived an hour away from my job. It sucked, but it was better than sleeping in my car, which I know I would have hated. You have no privacy in there, you can’t change clothes and your everything is in there, you have to find places that will allow you to park overnight (a LOT of places outside of a walmart won’t let you) not to mention you have to constantly trust a public bathroom for everything related to that and that just sounds miserable on its own. Public showers aren’t really a thing outside of truck stops either, and those are pretty hit or miss. Not to mention cooking appliances aren’t really an option either outside of gas station microwaves. You’d probably spend as much money on gas for the car air conditioning and comfort as you would driving back and forth to your mother’s anyway.

For sure I’ll save money by not driving to my moms everyday. It’s $35 gas daily.

I’m mostly all day at my job I can put my Turkey in the job fridge I’m thinking lol.

If you can truly stand being homeless for 3 months, you have a stronger stomach than I do. I would hate living like that, I would be constantly afraid for my safety.

Oh man girl, living in your car is gonna be rough, but you gotta do what you gotta do! Here's some tips for cheap eats:

- Get a little cooler and freeze water bottles to keep like eggs, sandwich fixings cold. Dollar Tree has em cheap.

- You right, no fridge sucks but canned chili, ravioli, tuna is good - just gotta pack a can opener.

- Peanut butter crackers, granola bars, trail mix- grab em at the 99 Cents Only. Fill you up!

- Dried fruit like raisins keep longer than banana. Pack some vitamins too girl.

- Rotisserie chickens from the grocery store are a whole meal for like $6, rip it apart anywhere.

- Baby carrots, celery, snap peas last a while if ya stash em in a Ziploc.

- Cup o' noodles, oatmeal packets are easy, just add hot water anywhere.

- Taco Bell's dollar menu will do in a pinch but try to eat clean as you can, okay?

Find an apartment looking for housemates to start with. Just get out of the situation and stop complaining about not having a guy. Sorry to break it to you, but no guy looks for a girl that's desperate and lives in her car. Unless the car's a Bugatti or Ferrari.

All it needs is to have a roof and walls, ideally not with a Satanist or overly exuberant Christian - and I say this AS an exuberant Christian. We're bloody awful to live with even if you share the same beliefs as my best mate can attest to.

Split the rent equally and save up for a better place or a mobile home. These days that's not a joke. I'm considering buying a vacant plot and a mobile home. It's cheaper than a house.

Get a Cooler full of ice or buy a refrigerated cooler that plugs into a power outlet like what the old cigarette lighters plugged into in a car.
