I need some ideas for this weekend.

I need some ideas for this weekend.
Mashed potatoes.
- peeled potatoes cooked in salty water
- mashed with potato masher
- two Tbsp butter, two Tbsp sweet cream, pinch grated nutmeg
Butter potatoes
- peeled whole potatoes or halves if bigger, cooked in salty water with half onion and cumin
- dissolving 3-4 Tbsp butter in a pan (without making it brown)
- coating cooked potatoes in this butter (don't roast potatoes in butter because butter burns easily and potatoes need lot of heat)
- adding freshly chopped or frozen dill, don't use dried one it tastes different.
Garlic potato gratin
- peeled fresh potatoes cut in 0,5-1cm thick slices (not too thin)
- putting potato slices in gratin backing form coated with olive oil
- 5-10 fresh garlic cloves chopped in slices mixed with 2Tbsp molten butter on the top of potatoes
- optional finely chopped chunks of smoked bacon or ham on the top
- in 180C backing oven for 60 minutes
- 100-200g grated cheese, Emmetal, Gouda, Maasdam, some swiss type... in the top of gratin and 5-10 minutes in oven by 180C.
Loaded reply. Thank you.
Potatoes five minutes"
A well known potato recipe around here.
Fry streaky bacon in a frying pan, add onions and slices of potatoes then cover with stock. Cook gently til stock is nearly absorbed and potatoes cooked.
Or cut in to chunks, arrange on top of a bed of leeks and half cover with stock. Roast until cooked then top with lots of cheese.
I will try this.
Baked Russet potatoes. Then I cut mine up with the skin and toss it with butter, salt and pepper. Then I top it with lots of green onions, bacon bits and shredded cheddar cheese. Finally, I add dollops of sour cream and have at it. It makes a meal in itself.
I also love French fries with dipping sauce (ketchup, BBQ sauce, or tartar sauce, depending on what I'm eating with the fries), and mashed potatoes with lots of butter, salt and pepper, or gravy.
My least favorite are roasted, but they can be good, too. There are also lots of wonderful dishes that contain potatoes.
As for me I like baked potatoes, mashed potatoes & fries. As for my new way I like smashed potatoes & they came out really good. In addition I recently came across mashed potato fries & I’m looking forward to trying them out.
Really interesting. Thanks.
Ah, the humble potato, so versatile and full of potential even in the simplest dishes. My favorite way to prepare it is roasting, Italian-style. Picture this: potatoes cut into even cubes, tossed with olive oil, garlic, rosemary, and a sprinkle of sea salt. Roasting them at a high temperature gives a crispy outside, while staying soft and fluffy inside. It takes me back to a memorable dinner in a rustic trattoria in Tuscany, filling the air with mouthwatering aromas. 🍽️🌿

I like them either way, but I love a baked loaded potato.
anon for this? really?
Personally, baked spud topped with fried onion, butter, bacon, cheese and sour cream is near my top.
a good potatoe and leak soup is always good
Mashed (if properly seasoned) is awesome too.
potato bake is fiddly as fuck but still can be good.
Yes. A lot of people block you. This gets more replies. There is usually a reason for everything.
Mashed, Baked, Scalloped, Pancake, French Fried, Home Fries, Hash Browns, I could go on, its pointless I have have a craving right now for one baked on the grill, where the skin gets a little burned, but the inside is still soft and fluffy, plenty of butter and black pepper.
They are versatile. Grill is one of my favorites too.
It’s a whole lot of extra effort I usually don’t go through, but the couple times I made twice-baked “loaded” potatoes, those were top shelf👌
Can there be just one way? I'll say baked only because a baked potato is filling and can a be a whole meal. You can add any toppings you want and it's easy to reheat and take with you. I do love me some curly fries or the viral smashed Tiktok potatoes
I can make a good roast potato/potato wedges (with a simple coating of salt, pepper, rosemary and olive oil), but also make the famous greek lemon potatoes (s, p, dill and olive oil) and potato skins (crisped with whatever cheese and protein is handy). We’re big on that particular side at home. 😂
His us my favorite but I haven't done it in a while...
Wrap the potato in aluminum foil and strap it to your car's engine block, then go for a one hour drive. You'll end up with a perfect baked potato.
Of course, this doesn't work with EVs... another reason why we should stick with gas-powered vehicles. 🙄
Cut the potatoes into cubes, chop the onions and peppers into small pieces, add a spoonful of tomato paste, add spices and salt if desired, and finally add water and let it cook on medium heat. I also recommend making a small pot of rice pilaf with vermicelli alongside this potato dish. 😉
That does sound interesting.
I think try these two dishes once; I am sure you will thank me. You will be dazzled by the flavors of the dishes. If you want, I can send you the recipes.
I will.
Can you post links here? Then others might see them too. Everyone loves a good meal.
Enjoy your meal! 😊
Unfortunately, since they are local dishes, there are no English recipes. 😔 I will translate them from my own language into English and write them that way.
Well I get a fork & stab it about 40-60 times to let out my frustrations, then I gently but it in a paper bag & heat it in the microwave on the potato setting.
lol That's great. Well-vented.
I like potatoes several ways, boiled then with butter salt and pepper. Baked or twice baked with lots of sharp cheddar cheese, scalloped with onions cheese and milk, roasted around a beef or pork roast until crispy and flavorful or finally steamed then mashed with butter & cream cheese and seasoned with salt, pepper & chives
Personally, you simply cannot beat proper roasted potatoes.
I am leaning toward this.
Baked (Idaho/Burbank/russet) with the works, mashed, scalloped, french fries, has browns, (reds) al dente for potato salad. So many ways, so little time.
It is a shame we can only eat so much at once. lol
Variety - the spice of life.
Are you having guests over, or just trying to get rid of some potatoes?
lol I'm having a group of old friends over so I want my meals to be creative and tasty.
I would go with roasted root vegetables. 3 pounds root vegetables, such as carrots, parsnips, sweet potatoes, and beets, garlic, salt, pepper, olive oil, rosemary. 425 for 30 minutes.
That is a good suggestion. Thanks.
I cut them into thin disks and fry them up. They are like fat potato chips.
I have tried this. Mine were too thin. I will thicken them up next time.
Does this question really need to be asked anonymously? "Oh my god, they are going to know I'm cooking potatoes"
I have a lot of people who have blocked me. lol It will get more replies this way.
Thin slices dropped in a flat pan, but I don't do that often, it's quite time consuming as I only have small pans here
Depends on the dish.
I'm big into homemade fries at moment and will be making dishes they go well with at the moment.
I guess roast potatoes with fire I’ve never done that by myself
It makes them taste so much better
Depends on the type of potato. Some are better for mashing. Some are better for roasting.
Good point
French fries. Er... excuse me, I'm Murican. Freedumb fries.
I love oven roasted with rosemary. Easy to make and yummy
A well-baked potato, with a crispy skin and fluffy interior.
The only way I'll eat potatoes is if their in French fry or chip form
Aside from Boiled/Mashed,
Air-Fried, Baked, Hasselback, Oven-Roasted, Butter-Braised, Gratinéed, Smashed & Pan-Fried, Scalloped,
Slice them up into stripes and make French Fries out of them
Straight up fry them. I like my fries that way and I dont typically use potato as starch because im a rice eater.
I like it stewed with onions, and I also like baked potatoes.
Oh, right, Pommes Frites too.
I like to slice them thin and then put butter, garlic, salt and pepper and bake in the oven yum
Boil em, mash em, stick em in a stew.
Stuffed and twice baked… What about you?
I've done those. All sorts of stuffing, always popular.
I'm a potato girl. But I'm still learning new recipes with these wonderful suggestions.
