How do you feel about your significant other's cooking?

They can "theoretically" cook, but it's literally awful and I prefer them not to

They can cook but it's nothing special and nothing to get excited about.

They are an amazing home cook. I know it, they know it, everyone knows it.

They are a professional cook/chef. Their food is top notch.

My husband is the "special order" cook. He has the patience and precision that lends itself well to temperature tracking mains (steak, fish, baking a cake, tempering eggs etc). If we're having guests and want to impress with a main, he's usually on duty.

That said, my skills are much more in planning the rest of the meal (selecting seasonal cohesive salads/sides/starches) and including a variety of ingredients, flavors, and textures. I default to soups, salads, and deconstructed spreads (taco bar, pasta bar, rice bowls etc).

I have to honestly admit that my husband by far surpasses me with his adventurous and creative culinary skills... It obviously somehow runs in their family as his father is better in the kitchen than his mother.

My wife is Chinese. When she cooks American food, she does it with a Chinese style and it is wonderful. Her range of meals is limited by time constraints, as she works full-time, but I am not complaining. I can cook and I have offered to do so on several occasions, but her appreciation for Southern US cooking is not as great as my appreciation for Southern Chinese cooking.

My last girlfriend told me she could cook. However, I only ever sampled her mastery of the microwave of our leftovers. From my experience, women who cook is dying with the World War II generation of women. I have yet to have a girlfriend who has cooked us anything. It has always been me who does all the cooking.

I'll admit I suck at cooking. My boyfriend has been cooking for a long time and is pretty good at it, so he does most of the cooking and I do most of the shopping. He likes to grill in the summer but he's also really good in the kitchen too. So I'll usually do the sides unless he has something in particular in mind he wants to do. Needless to say, I do most or all of the dishes.

Last girlfriend theoretically cooked. In reality she assembled. She bought cooked foods and heated them.

She still claimed to have cooked. It was cheaper to eat out than her assemblages were.

She doesn't like it but is very cooking smart and knows what makes good combinations. I like it sometimes but do dumb stuff like put orange peel into tomato soup as a "test" for a special occasion. It WAS aweful.

Muffins I would likely do from a box, too, but I would probably tweak it to some degree by adding more fruit (assuming blueberry or apple muffins). I have memorized my biscuit recipe and can easily have a batch done in 20 minutes, ready for honey and sausage gravy.
