Are food delivery apps' prices getting out of control?

My friend was staying late at the office last night and didn't bring dinner, so I got her McDonald's (she loves her hamburgers, I can't stand the stuff) on Deliveroo. Normal McCrispy Menu, fries and Coke and the total was 25,68€ - 30,21$. The menu itself costs only 10,20€ which means there's a whopping 15,48€ or markup ansd fees.

Now, I didn't mind too much, but it seems vastly overpriced, especially considering that when she came over at my place on Monday we got two large pizzas delivered by the pizzeria and we paid 15€ in total - 17,65$.

So I wonder, are the apps still worthwhile nowadays?

Oh it's absolutely out of control. I ordered 2 pizzas and a 2liter soda on doordash and the total with tip came out to over 70 dollars. It's insane.

Oh yeah. Last year my girl ordered pizza. $12 pizza, delivery via doordash brought it to over $27 plus tips.

That’s why they are so successful.
I think the middle person (grubhub, urber eats…) take % from those who ordered the food and the restaurants.
I generally don’t order. I pickup or go to the restaurant. In the US, we tip more to our staff.

They charge a mark-up so the app itself can make a profit on top of anything you or the app pays the driver. Yes, it’s bullshit. No, a 5% increase in price is not unreasonable if all you’re doing is paying for convenience instead of getting it yourself.

You'll like hamburgers if you get a good one. I never have food delivered. I'd rather go pick it up myself, so then I can't be mad at anybody else if the food is cold or the wrong order is delivered without checking it first. I have had terrible luck my whole life with food being delivered, so I just stopped doing that to myself at least 10 years ago. It always took way too long, the food was cold, or the order was wrong, or all the above. I don't need any more disappointments in my life.

I never use them, as I grew up in a family where self-sufficiency was encouraged and dependence on others was eschewed.

It depends. I get free delivery on GrubHub and while it can be pricy, it can also be about the same as going and picking it up when considering driving there and possible parking costs.

I've never had a problem with prices but if I got a horrible pizza like that I wouldn't be very happy.
