Now I assume coon refers to raccoon, now they're pretty non existent in these here parts. But we do get a fair bit of badger road kill.
So two questions, does badger taste like coon?
And which of these recipes would you recommend?
Rabbit is good. Squirrel isn’t bad.
I wouldn’t eat raccoon. I expect it tastes a lot like bear, which isn’t good.
I know you’re poking fun, but those poor people recipes really are the best. Any idiot can make a perfectly cut ribeye taste good. REAL cooking is taking the low-on-the-hog cuts and making them delicious.
I luv po’ folks cookin’! Roll through a soul food joint sometime and see if you don’t luv it too. Don’t ask what’s in it or how it’s made. Just enjoy. You can thank me later.
I'm sure the badger would say no if asked.
I'm not sure about road kill.
Animals are not stupid, unlike humans, and don't usually get killed, unless there is something wrong with them.
So I don't think I fancy eating road kill.
As for your recipes, I wouldn't like to taste any of the three options you have offered.
Perhaps the "Chippy" tonight Poppy?
Okay, I've never heard of "stuffed raccoon" and dont say "c**n" it is a racial slut against African Americans, and suggesting it be stuffed doesn't help.
I know people who breed rabbits for eating, its a thing.
As a farm girl, I've spent many an hour in the woods hunting dinner, especially on weekends... and squirrel is always on the menu as long as you know how to skin them. They fry up quite well... im not much on grits.
The recipe calls them coons I'm just going by that
Just heat the meat good through. Both are omnivores and scavengers and this increases risk of various infections.
Both badger and raccoon have distinct flavors, with badger meat being generally more gamey and robust compared to raccoon. They are not typically interchangeable in recipes due to these differences. I'd recommend being cautious as badger is not commonly consumed, and care should be taken with its preparation. 🌿
For a unique American culinary experience, you might want to explore pot roast or jambalaya instead—both are flavorful and can accommodate different types of commonly available meats. They truly showcase a blend of American culinary influences.

I have had squirrel that we shot back in the day. There isn’t much meat on them at all and little taste so don’t not recommend. I never had ‘coon although I know people with them as rescue pets that have been hit by cars and can’t be released so can’t recommend them.
I have probably had rabbit at some point but would recommend wild boar which tastes great and are in abundance in the US due to illegal importation and crazy reproduction rates.
You forgot these. . .

Poppy I don’t think I want raccoons 🦝 squirrels or rabbits in my food I would like for you to make me a nice American beef stew with cow beef in it potatoes and vegetables and dumplings if that’s OK with you please 😊 I’m sure you’ll be an excellent cook after what you’ve described in the past of your cooking abilities
Sure, you can substitute badger, porcupine, woodchuck, or beaver.
But as a woman, you may want think twice about telling your friends you were eating beaver last night and you really enjoyed it.
Or not. Just sayin….
You can use badger in the coon recipe. The taste will be a little different, more gamey, but who would know that? And that would be eco-friendly, putting roadkill to good use.
I have not had fried rabbit since I was in the Air Force.
I bet badgers and racoons share the same texture. Porcupines and hedgehogs too.
Coon, badger, and possum are going to taste like shit because of their diet. They should be bled out and brined for 3 days in salt, rosemary, thyme, onion, celery, and oranges.
We substitute possums. Do you have possum roadkill available?
Never had racoon. I did roast a few squirrels & rabbits over an open fire when I was a kid out camping.
Rabbit, but the recipe needs to include where to aim and how to skin it...
I think that badgers would strongly disagree on that.
As long as its not roadkill
Again, the c**ns are rejected !!!
Try hunting you may like it.
