What is your favorite way to make mash potatoes?

So I know how to do a mash, you bake potatoes in the oven, out them in a ricer, mash them with some butter, push it through a sieve, maybe add milk or eggs depending on how you are going to serve it and season with salt, pepper and nutmeg.

Sometimes I use garlic, chives, cheese, mustard, depending on the mood and what I feel like that day.

So I make it in a slight different way. I boil them in salted water. Once the potatoes are soft I strain them. Add them back in the pot, add oat milk, butter, pepper, nutmeg and grated parmesan or mature cheddar cheese and mash everything together. It always comes out really good and my Partner loves it.

For simple mash I cut unpeeled potatoes up, boil them till tender, drain and let the steam dry them out. Add a blob of butter and splash of milk. Mash with a hand masher till smooth. Salt and pep to taste.

Fancy mash, i basically do the same but add parsley and fry some garlic in the butter, use cream instead of milk. Maybe add some parm

Peel them, once each is peeled cut them into 8ths or even 16ths and drop them into a pot of salted water. Once they're all peeled, put the pot on the stove on a med. burner with a lid on 99% of the way and boil them for 20:00 or until a fork can slip right into one of them. By this time, your roast should be at least half cooked and you should pour about half the potato water into the roaster AROUND the meat. Then, holding the lid on fairly tight, pour out the rest of the water into the sink. Drop at least half a stick of butter into the pot and keep the lid on for a while to soften the butter. After about 2:00, the butter should be soft. Get a potato masher and mash them. Once they're mostly mashed, add about half a cup of milk and continue mashing. Once everything's all mixed together, use the masher to whip the potatoes by just stirring them around in the pot for a minute.
Voila, they're ready to eat!

As for me I like roasted garlic red mashed potatoes where you mash up skin & all, add garlic & butter, heavy cream & Parmesan cheese if you want. I like smashed potato’s as well & those are fun & easy to make in the oven as well.

The old irish way is that you boil them in their skins and peel them after they are boiled to seal in all the goodness and then mash them. Some add milk but generally its a stick of real butter and pepper. Most people just peel and boil them now without the jackets, easier and quicker to mash and really with all the pesticides you really want the skins off. Then you mash them in the pot with the masher.

From there if you want you can make them into Colcannon adding dice boiled cabbage or kale or champ with boiled scallions and spring onions and butter and milk. Id recommend these for reusing mash potatoes the next day.

Peel the potatoes, boil them until soft, drain the water with a strainer and put them into a container to mix, crush fresh garlic and pan fry it with a stick of butter (plus milk for volume) until it's all melted and cooked nicely, then pour that into the container with the cooked potatoes, then add salt and pepper and finally mix until creamy.

Dice, boil, drain, add butter and/or cheese and mash by hand while they’re still hot. Then use an electric mixer on slow to whip in a bit of milk and chopped scallions. I whip slowly cuz i like my mashed taters lumpy but i’m too lazy to do it by hand. 😂😂
Sometimes i whip in a bit of corn meal, shape the taters into patties and lightly pan fry them to make tater cakes. You can make little nuggets that way too and then you have homemade tater tots.
