People eat it right from the plastic bags it's sold in. That's one way but jerky is just a way to preserve meat. Once you boil it all the toughness is gone, you can dice it or what ever you want. I can make, soup, stew, beef pot pie, casserole, it's just meat and you can use it how ever you use meat. I've wondered if the bulk of the population is aware of this.

This is true unless you're hiking or camping etc. You can also make Jerky yourself of course if you want to store a lot of meat.

Corporations sell it as a snack. It is flavored a certain way and sold. This works because profit is made. The history of the actual thing is forgotten.
