We're always told that we should stay positive and keep a good attitude BUT we're never told how to change. If you've come to the realisation that you have a bad attitude ant you need to change, here are a few steps you can take to start moving forward.

Remember that you are powerful: Most of the time, we tend to conform to our external environment, we hide behind all the labels we give ourself. The truth is we aren’t any of those things. You are more important than any label you, or anyone else for that matter, gives you. You aren’t defined by your profession; you aren’t defined by your feeling and you aren’t defined by your circumstances. What we are is far grander, far superior, far more significant, and far more mysterious than what our mind tries to define. This is why we are far more powerful than we think we are.
You determine your reality: It’s important to understand that you determine your reality by the way you react to your external environment. When something occurs, YOU decide whether it’s a positive or negative experience and react accordingly. Losing your job might be a disaster or it might be the opportunity for bigger and better things… you decide.
Choose to embrace life: Breathe, let go and embrace the moment, whether it contains an obstacle or an opportunity. Start focusing on what’s really important to you. Don’t go through life expecting things to change without having to put in any effort. Life becomes hard and unfair when we decide to complain about things instead of trying to change them ourselves. Life is not a practice-run so be brave and confident, and make decisions that benefit your growth. Realize that time stands still for no one and start to make any changes that will positively benefit you.
Your language shapes your thoughts: Small changes in your language can modify the way you think act. Whenever someone greets you and asks how your do is going instead of answering with “fine” or “not bad” try to answer with “amazing” or “fantastic”. Not only will this remind you that life really is great but it’ll usually surprises and lift the spirit of the person you're talking to as well.
Stop negative thoughts in their tracks: It’s hard to always be a positive person and negative thoughts will inevitably show up from time to time. These will be more frequent in the beginning but decrease with practice. When you first notice a negative thought you can use a pattern interrupt to stop them. The idea is to interrupt your current thought process. Do anything from singing the “twinkle, twinkle little star” or practicing basic maths in your head.
Be grateful: So many positive things happen during the day but we often ignore them while allowing one negative comment or event destroy our mood. Keeping a gratitude journal where you jot down things you are grateful for each night can make an immense difference. Even if all you can think of is “I love the pizza I ate today” at least it’s something and chances are you'll still feel more positive and happier after writing it down.
Learn to love yourself: Remember you have everything you need right here. Open your eyes, and see that you already have everything you need to be happy, loved, and fulfilled. It’s not out there; it’s in the same place it was since you were born. It’s just been hidden by all the exterior things you have clung onto over the years. Love yourself completely and accept everything that you are. You are strong, smart and beautiful. Believe it, and remind yourself of it often.
