"Now, when a woman -does- commit a terrible crime, or even falls victim to a crime, it is often used to generalize awful things about women in general."
This is absurd. Women are treated far more gently when they commit crimes. The statistics back this up.
I still would like an answer as to why you call yourself a feminist instead of an egalitarian.
I'm not saying that hitting girls is OK, I am saying that by specifically saying not to hit girls children are being indoctrinated in the false belief that women are a protected and superior class of people. That violence against men isn't as bad as violence against women. This is, of course, not equality. If feminists really cared about equality they would be crusading against this disparity just as much as the ones that favor men, but they don't care about equality.
every way in our society. They are portrayed as the more competent sex in most commercials and sit-coms, and to a lesser degree in dramas. Crimes against women are punished more heavily than crimes against men. Girls are more strongly supported by schools than boys are, in part because of the predominance of female elementary teachers, but also because school itself is organized around a teaching method that benefits girls over boys. Boys are still taught form a young age not to hit girls.
First of all, talking to someone smarter than you is seldom a waste of time, especially if they are trying to educate you.
I realize that there is a difference between traditional fgm and circumcision. But that doesn't mean that circumcision ISN'T genital mutilation. You openly admit that you are "pro-choice" when it comes to the genital mutilation of infant boys.
You don't have to provide facts, but without them you lose even more credibility.
Women are exalted in pretty much every way in
Now I feel like I am beating a dead horse about this equality thing, but I have to ask, if feminism is about equality, why is it called feminism instead of, say, equalism? Why is the root word about women if it claims to be about helping everyone? And if it is about equality, where does that leave egalitarianism? Does that simply not exist? Are they one in the same? If they are why don't you simply refer to yourself as an egalitarian to avoid confusion?
seen as the moral authority in our society. Women are considered to be altruistic, doing good simply because it is the right thing to do, whereas men are instantly held in suspicion. Don't believe me? How would you feel about walking past a man in a dark ally? How about a woman? If a woman is seen talking to a child she doesn't know she is seen as friendly, whereas a man is instantly suspected of being a pedophile. Men are vilified constantly whereas women are exalted.
The U.S. is actually a matriarchy, by most definitions of the term. Women hold more government power than men (more votes). Women control more property than men (make 80-90% of spending decisions). Women are more of an influence on children thanks to high divorce rates and custody bias, and the fact that elementary teachers are predominately female. In fact a significant proportion of boys these days are raised almost exclusively by women. The most important fact is that women more than men are
If the government is predominately men it is because that is what women want, and because sexism that existed 30+ years ago made it more difficult for women to get started in politics. Women are the decision makers for 80-90% of the money spent in this country. Women decide which businesses succeed and which fail. If most CEOs are men it is, as with politicians, because that is what women want, and because the effects of sexism in the past is still being felt because it takes decades to be a CEO
The video you want to use as a reference isn't a reference at all, it is nonsense with absolutely no factual value or coherent arguments. In the comments by the video creator he openly admits that the portrayal is too far from reality to even be considered a strawman fallacy.
As for your disbelief that women run the country, I can simply reiterate my points and hope that you catch them this time. There are more women voters than men voters. That means women pick our government.
There is no such thing as non-extreme feminism, they all want to social engineer society to get rid of 'rape culture' and 'patriarch' whatever the f*** they are. This belief that they have a right to control how others think is in itself extreme.
Not to mention their obsession with male 'privilege'. Higher suicide rates. Lower life expectancy. Greater chance of death at work. More likely to be homeless. More likely to be in jail. Longer sentences for the same crimes. So privileged!
"women have largely been at a sociopolitical disadvantage, and still are." Do you have proof? Can you cite studies that show that a women's vote counts for less than a mans, or that women have less say in how money is spent or personal property maintained, or that they have little influence in how children are raised, or that they don't affect the direction of our culture? You can't because in all these areas women equal or exceed men.
So many points to address. I'll try and be concise.
Fgm is practically unheard of in the western world, whereas male genital mutilation (circumcision) is commonplace. On gag you can find questions about it and countless girls saying that they intent to circumcise their sons. Where is your outrage for that? If you cared about equality you would be outraged, but you don't care because you are a bigot, so you aren't outraged.
Rape culture is a lie. It simply doesn't exist.
I'm offended.
I can ether debunk your arguments or outright ignore them. Needless to say feminism, like this article, is very one sided. I suggest you redefine what you think you are because I'm aware of what a feminist is and it's certainly not equality.
This was a great article.Clearly well reasoned and well thought out.I liked it.Many feminists have had to pick up the cause for men too, because of the accusations by men, who say that if feminists supported equality, they would also support men's rights. That's like if racist people back then were to tell blacks that if they really sought equality, they would also fight for white's rights. Feminism wasn't intended to support men, so it's not like men should be angry about this.
I read that men rape because they seek to dominate. It said that perhaps this was so because men are taught to be aggressive in sports and life. Also, men who take a hesitant no think that the women "wants it", and that she secretly desires something, when in fact a no means no. #7 is good.
David: A strong woman can be strong to take care of kids, but that's emotional strength.
Women don't run the country. That's what anti-feminists say. Fairtrade has it wrong. Women may or may not have rights under the law, but that's de jure, not de facto. It's not applied in practice. Rollingstone Magazine has it good. It says how women are blamed for rape in the military. Anyone who has been following the (right) news lately will know this. Somehow I find the anti-feminists to be mostly for no gun control, against feminism, etc. That's moaterboat for you.
My mother is one of the strongest people I have ever known. In her early thirties my father left her for another woman. Mom was left with five kids to raise on her own. She became a firefighter for the city of Dallas shortly after and has served the community in that role for 21 years now. She told me that she always stood up for her rights, but refused the "feminist" label because it was antagonistic.
And stop saying that feminism has anything to do with equality. It doesn't. That belief system already exists and it is called egalitarianism. If you believe in equality you are an egalitarian. If you add any sort of caveats, disclaimers, or exceptions based on gender, you are a bigot, plain and simple.
@why-makoto-kun I did read 7, I read the whole thing. It is mostly a load of crap for several reasons. First is the lie that patriarchy is still around. Over half the electorate in this country is women and almost all spending is done by women. Women run the country, and the only reason that most politicians and business leaders are men is because that's how women want it. Women are not confined by gender roles, whereas men still are, and feminism is to blame for that.
Next, if strength is the reason men are drafted and women aren't, then draft based on strength rather than gender. I know enough girls who can beat me up to know that the strength things is widely general and has a lot of overlap.
In times of peace "Men are not stronger than women!" In times of war "Men are stronger than women!"
Let's just take gender out of the equation.
