I wish I could make a wishlist for Feminism. Something were I could just say "I would so love your movement if you had these few tweaks"
And most of these tweaks would involve more modern male psychology that is proving many parts of feminist theory wrong. For one, violence does not happen in men who are powerful, but usually in men who feel powerless.
Also, I don't like being told that if a man shoots me, it isn't a gender issue cause It's just men shooting men, like I'm shooting my foot.
I liked this article. Quite thoughtful and explainatory.
With #7, though, the main reason I think Feminism ignores men has more to do with it making up men's intentions. Telling everyone that men are conspiring to keep women down, while ignoring the issues men themselves have that show up in this way.
Egalitarianism is the belief in equality for all people. Feminism is NOT, nor has it ever been, about equality. It is about working to the advantage of women, and that's it. Equality doesn't factor into it. If you believe in equality you are an egalitarian. If you believe in advancing things for women, rather than focusing on equality, then you are a feminist, and by default, a bigot.
You see, unlike Animal Rights activists - who are trying to give animals the LEGAL RIGHT to be free from abuse - feminists are not actually fighting for LEGAL RIGHTS anymore (aside from opposing Masculists and Equal Rights groups trying to give men equal rights over their status as a parent). Instead, the only thing they can talk about are social issues like, "why does crime still happen? Crime is bad. Crime should happen less. Do we have laws for crimes? Oh, we have rape laws?"
Feminism used to be a legitimate cause, when women actually had LESS LEGAL RIGHTS than men. Currently, however, not only do women have EQUAL legal rights, but women actually have SUPERIOR LEGAL RIGHTS to men. Don't believe it? Compare Dubay v. Wells to Roe v. Wade or Planned Parenthood v. Casey. In the words of Justice Ginsburg, "the ability to determine "one's" life course" by having control over one's status as a parent is apparently an exclusively female liberty right.
By "It's not that they supress women's rights", I don't mean that feminists supress women's rights. I meant that it's not like traditional or religious people try to supress women's rights. Just wanted to clear that up because I seemed ambiguous.
True traditional/religious people are respectful. So if you see someone talking about "tradition", he or she doesn't necessarily talk about a woman that is a servant. I guess tradition and religion are also very misunderstood.
So what do you think of the way traditional or religious cultures view feminism? Traditional or religious cultures wouldn't want feminism to take hold because of some things such as individualism or women dressing however they please. It's not that they supress women's rights. More like they require both men and women to be modest.
I guess that is what I misunderstood about feminism before I knew you. I used to think that feminists weren't modest and didn't believe in modesty, but now I see that some feminists believe in modesty, while others don't. Thanks for clearing it up.
I happen to think that modesty is great. But I think that is a reason why traditional or religious people don't like feminism. They think that feminists don't want modesty. What do you think? What is the majority of feminist beliefs on modesty?
I don't really know what a feminazi is. Sometimes I see a question that is asked about feminism, and all of a sudden, there's mention of feminazis, etc. and I don't even know what the answerers are talking about. it's like they go around criticizing feminists and they have this preconceived notion of what feminism is, and then moderate feminists have to defend their image, which is not that radical feminist image that most people believe.
What feminists fail to understand, it takes FAR more guts to stay at home, run the house, raise kids, cook meals, be your husbands lover, than it does to sell their souls to the corporate world, becoming so un- feminine it's disgusting. Respect is EARNED. Not given. I have more respect for a brave woman who keeps her home happy than I ever will for a corporate sellout who happens to be a woman.
When I’m a parent, after I get home from work, I will not sit around and relax, I will participate and help my wife with dinner, and child care, or perhaps on certain days have her relax, and I do all the work, if we both fully agree upon this beforehand.
Concerning the thing about motherhood, now-a-days, many women, especially those that work outside of the home have two jobs, their first job is working usually an 8 hour shift, then having to drive home, and work their second job at home, (cooking, cleaning, taking care of the child(ren), etc) Typically while the man, if this is a heterosexual couple, sits down and watches telly after his “tiring day of work”.
Per the point on male feminists, which is of especial interest to myself, This is not true, I see myself as a feminist, because I believe in equal rights for everyone, just as I see myself as a gay rights advocate, but that doesn’t mean that I wish to be gay, or that I wish to have sex with another man, it simply means that I think they should have the same rights as I do.
Also, something that I happen to find outlandish is the politicalizing of abortion, I’m pro-choice, I think that it should be up to the woman what to do with her body. If she wants to get an abortion, get one, if she doesn’t, don’t. And also to do realize that abortion is the really the only politically controlled medical procedure? For instance, if you’re drunk driving and get in a motor accident, you’re OK to get surgery, same goes if you smoke, among other things.
Feminist don’t want to “take over” feminists want equal rights between ALL genders, whether that be female, male, or transgendered persons. Feminism just so happens to be oriented more towards women, because they have been the most repressed, for example, men were the first to be able to own land, vote, drive, and work, among other things. Women have, sadly, only ben able to vote for about the last 90 years or so, compared to the hundreds of years, that a man has been able to vote.
parts of my body. Another example of "feminazisism" is with English, if you speak English and live in America, you automatically assume that English speakers will speak American English, but that is not the case, I'm an American, but I prefer talking in British English, as you may have noticed.
o address the concern on "feminazis" and men hating feminists, that is all but a select few. That is like saying all Muslims are terrorists, they are not, the terrorists are only a small group. or if you practise Christianity, that's like saying all Christians are like the Westboro Baptist Church, which clearly isn't true. Many feminists are not hairy, no shaving, men hating women. After all, look at me, I'm a male feminist and I don't hate men, nor do I hate women, and I also shave different...
That there, that is rape culture. Saying that a girl's skirt is too short, or that she was too drunk, or that she was asking for it. That is rape culture. Also there are rehabilitation programmes that have been successful in helping convicted rapists, and having them not commit another rape. Also women shouldn't be held accountable for protecting themselves and preventing rape. While yes, this will help lower the cases of rape, what is more important is that we teach the public that rape is...
raped a 16 year old girl at a party, Within the media, these two men were told that their American football careers were over, and how they had such promising careers ahead of them, and how all of that was ruined. Not once did the newscasters mention the suffering, loss, and grief that the victim has to endure, from being ridiculed by family, friends, schoolmates, and complete strangers, and being called a slut, people saying that she deserved it, and a whore, among other things...
Moaterboat: I'm a male feminist, yes, we do exist. I want to mention a couple of things. First off, rape culture, which you denounce, does exist, telling a woman or man, men do get raped to, although a majority of rape victims are women; just to get over the trauma, and act like in didn't happen is equivalent to telling an amputee to pretend that their amputated body part is still there. In Steubenville, Ohio, that was in the news a couple of months ago, in which two American football players...
