I'd prefer to teach women marital arts.
MARITAL. GET IT? AHAHAHA- Hoo...
... *Ahem* Sorry, I couldn't help myself._.
I tried martial arts but it was boring/routine/mundane. Is there a certain category that's actually fun
In that case, I blame the instructor. I'm sorry that was your experience.
It's not so much about which style you chose, but how the instructor actually teaches it, how much he goes out of his way to actually make sure you learn something new each class, to make sure you understand what you got the previous class. Each time my instructor does that, its done a different way. In addition, he changes up each class. There is a general formula, but, as you said, routines can be boring
Ooooooh I always wanted to learn martial arts *w* <3
Money and laziness gets in the way :<
Understand the money situation.
Laziness? get moving! :P
I don't know if you know this, but training an average woman would only at most equal out the fight with the average guy with no training, and before you say "Look at *insert famous female fighter*", she is not the average woman. The average woman isn't going to be as good as a pro, the same with the average guy with training he's not going to be a pro. So like @Jersey1 said, they need to get a firearm, or something that would stop an attacker, much more effective.
Of course I know that. I don't expect myself to be like lyoto machida or rashad Evans, but I train because of all the benefits.
And I have been in fights. And won. Because of my training
I know women that will attest to that as well.
And if you really did read, you would know I addressed sexual assault specifically, because the perpetrators are 95% of the time someone the victim knows. A random street attack: gun all the way.
Someone you know: not necessarily the timing to grab the gun.
If you have the gun near by at all times, it's always the time to get the gun. :p And I don't mean to put the spot light on men, but men are usually the ones that get attacked, so if anyone needs it, it's men who don't commit crimes. I'm also going to have to disagree with number 4, you aren't going to get respect just because you do martial arts, maybe with the people you are sparring with, but outside there is no way someone can magically know unless you tell them.
It's implied that you tell them...
Tell them that you do martial arts? That just makes them look like they have a chip on their shoulder. Which makes me lose respect for them.
You wanna explain your logic? because I don't understand at all
When I tell people that I've been in martial arts, their eyes widen up, with respect. This is after I've gotten to know the person
And if I understand your statement correctly, you have less respect for a woman, or a person in general, because they know how to fight? Because they chose a hobby that's really not the norm?
That tells me all I need to know about you
Believe it or not, I know this is the internet, but I have won from Guys in the ring. Thai-boxers, boxers,... And they weren't going easy on me if you had seen my fights. If I didn't have such a good block technique I would've looked nasty :p the Thai boxer even stumbled a couple of times as I punched him on the Chin whereas I had to wait for him to recover. So...
@Shutupman I believe it. One of the girls I train with always beats me up. She lands like 5 hits for every 1 I land on her, and they're decent too. I find my self gaping for a little extra air every time
Thanks, you know it makes me respect a man so much more for acknowledging a woman as an equal fighter! Not many men openly do so, even mocking woman for being too masculine. So respect to you !
It's not that someone knows how to fight is where I lose respect for them, it's when they want to tell the world that they know how to fight, which means they have a chip on their shoulder. I know how to fight, but guess what? Most people don't know that, and I will never tell anyone that I do, it makes me seem like an aggressive dickhead. @Shutupman Sure you did, if it's all about technique or you have more experience than the guy. If a guy would actually fight against you on the streets, you only equal out to the a normal guy at most. And street fighting and sparring are two VERY different things, obviously you most not been in both are you would have known that. Oh and Asker, since when was learning how to fight not the norm? What world do you live in?
Sure things that fighting on the streets and fighting in the ring are two different things. But I stille disagree about just being able to beat the average guy. Martiale artists are faster, have more stamina, know How to block better (even without protection ) and technique that causes them to punch more accuretly and harder. I wouldn't say I'dd easily win against a guy that had trained just as hard as me and is taller and heavier. That's something different, but otherwise I wouldn't care who my opponent was. I've had the privilege of standing against a big variation of sparring partners.
I live in the real world sir, and truth is, a lot of people don't know how to fight. Its nor in the norm
A guy at my college was severely beaten by 5 thugs. Two held him down, two kicked and punched him the last one laughed.
Bystanders were afraid to intervene, and are afraid to come forward. The guy himself, and his family, described him as a "non fighter". He's going to be in the hospital for a month, at least.
Some kind of training and knowledge is better than non at all. The report says he was helping a female friend whi was being harrased by these thugs, he even shook their hands, thinking they came to some kind of agreement, before being assaulted.
Take that as you will, the point is, some kind of training and knowledge is better than none at all.
The total number of people in the martial art (5 clubs btw) and boxing clubs is outnumbered by the soccer club alone
It's not in the norm.
@Shutupman All of your boxing training, all of your speed would mean nothing if you are cornered in an alleyway. The only thing that would matter is strength and knowledge of self defense, boxing is not self defense it's the opposite of it actually. Self defense is when you try to get out of the situation as quickly and as effectively as possible, you won't know what to do in a situation if your life is at threat, you simply do not know how to defend yourself. And you keep going back to sparring partners and the ring, like I said there is a huge difference between professional fighting and defending your life against an attacker.
Asker. So you think because one guy was beaten by 5 thugs the world doesn't know how to fight? Once again where do you live in the world that learning to fight is not the norm, and you compared a soccer club inside a college to martial arts and boxing clubs inside of a college, who is to say those soccer players don't go to like a gym and learn how to fight? You know, the normal place to go to, to learn how to fight.
Lol it would definitly mean something! Haha or I'll quit all of my hobby's cause why else would I do them if it doesn't matter. That's a whole lot of bullshit sir :) haha but well you've got your idea's I've got mine. Have a good life :)
@Shutupman I didn't tell you not to do it, when did I ever say that? All I said was you wouldn't have much of an advantage over a guy in a real fight just because you know how to box. Do you know how to get out of a corner if a guy was coming after you? No, because they don't teach that in boxing, they teach you how to throw punches and kicks, how to block them, and how to move out of the way of them. Not how to get out of someone's grip, hell the ref is there to make sure there is no grabbing each other. There is no ref in real life that says no grabbing, obviously, there are no rules in a real life situation. If the person wants you dead, he'll kill you. If you don't have something to defend yourself or know ways to defend yourself, you are dead. So, like I said, get a firearm or something to stop an attacker, or at the very least take self defense classes because boxing means nothing in a real life situation.
Get a Concealed Carry pistol, far more effective. If your state denies you this basic right, think about who you vote for.
As much of a gun activist I am, I hate this argument.
Why not both?
Both is excellent. Move the danger out of your space by 3+ feet with Martial Arts and then use the pistol.
Someone with a username "Jersey" who supports owning guns? Now I've seen everything :D
I grew up in Jersey, six guns but that was back in the day. I used to hunt along the Delware River looking at Philly in the opposite bank.
i agree women should learn artial arts I've always wanted to learn but i dont have the money sadly
You really do make a good point.
A woman can do well in martial arts if she puts the effort into it.
I thought people already knew this already. I didn't realize how clueless the world really is.
Statistics say that men are 4 times more prone to physical violence and murder than women. How come women need it more? Anyone can be a victim. Both need it equally.
I disagree with that they need it more than men do. I think it's equally important. I think it's a little ridiculous to expect guys to protect themselves just because they are guys and they don't need training
I tittled that way to get the attnetion of more women. I guess a more appropriate title should be "Why women should take up martial arts". Thanks for the feedback
ok... I would say just one of several points can do this..
What kind of martial arts is best to enroll in?
Anything really. But I would honestly recommend judo or Brazilian jujitsu. A core element is ground fighting. You can also start boxing, take kwon do, karate, kickboxing for stand up fighting.
The Martial art I practice, Hwarangdo, combines both standup and ground fighting. Of course, whatever you can find, take a look.
The other important thing is the feel you get from the instructor. I stayed with my art for so long because of the quality of the instructors. If you go to a school, and the instructor doesn't sit right with you, don't sign up. In the end no one style is superior, its about how you're taught
Take any martial art that suits you, but I find that practicing a mixture of martial arts that focus on various aspects such as speed, force, strength, balance and other areas greatly enhances your defensive and offensive capabilities. I practice Jeet Kune Do, Tae Kwon Do, Japanese Karate and kickboxing.
Throw in some groundfighting @The_Eternal_Emperor
You'd be fucking unstoppable
Yes, true. I'll be looking into some ground fighting techniques.
Or you know you can let women chose what they want to do.
Or I could try to be a good person and help them acquire a skill set and participate in a sport that is predominately practiced by men
See your sexism? it goes both ways. Next time you want to insult my good efforts, don't do anon. Stand by your BS
totally agree with that!!
@dunno with me or her?
because men are attack dog?
Did you even read the article?
so basically women should learn this because they are weaker than men... cool gotcha
Nowhere did I say that. Of course I expect nothing less from a coward who goes anon and doesn't stand by his convictions
I wanna do this now
Go for it girl!
I will! Thanks
Definitely agree with you.
If I was a women I would do marital arts.
All I gotta say is that #3 gif was fucking awesome
Interesting myTake, and very informative.
