My Roommate is a Compulsive Liar. What Should I do?

I am a female living with a compulsive lying female. We are both undergraduate juniors in college. She seemed like a pretty cool girl at first, but after living w/her for 1 week, I began to see she is the biggest/worst liar I've ever met. She fabricates lies that are so ridiculous, it makes it uncomfortable living w/her. I feel sorry for her, but even when I call her out on her lies, she just makes up more lies. She told me she makes $5k at an internship and having an affair with the married boss. He will soon be leaving his wife to be with her. She told me she dated a Saudi prince once, he was an oil tycoon and spent a lot of money on her. Why do people make up stories like that? Does she need mental help or what?

Always laughingly shrug off her jokes. Make her see you don't believe her and that stuff isn't making her look cool in her eyes, you just see her as silly. Maybe she'll see she doesn't have to try to live a 'cool' life to get people to like her.

you are in a very tough situation but stop being so nice and start calling her out on her lies.

Ask for proof. I use to do that with a coworker. He'd get so flustered that I didn't believe he was an original jackals member but they cut his footage because of an argument. I did this for all his lies. I never saw proof.

It sounds like she might be joking... maybe it turned into a lie? Not sure but assuming she's lying it's likely for attention & a desire to be desired.

They need mental help and you should stay away from them. While many of their lies can be amusing or just annoying. Those people will pull other stuff over on you that is much more sinister

She has a need to feel accepted, and she thinks that making up "cool" stories will make people accept her.
