Do you think a person with social anxiety can become a cashier?

my first day at work is going to be tommorow as a cashier but I'm not really good at communication with people because I'm always self conscious about my looks because I have a big nose and I'm a female. I'm always afraid people would laugh at me or look at me weird (which some do) and that makes me get a bit anxious. I'm nervous that I'm get anxiety being a cashier but I need that money I don't know how to feel

I have problems with anxiety and depression from things that happened in my childhood as well as being an introvert. I spent a little over a year as a server and cashier at a hispanic grocery store/restaurant and that may have been one of the best years of my life. I barely spoke much Spanish but I learned more every day. I slowly felt myself opening up more and calming down in everyday situations because I was forced into dealing with a few hundred people every day when I could barely communicate with most of them. a cashier job could really help you. at first you may struggle a bit but if you stick with it and really try to make it work it may help with you anxiety like it did with mine. I still have flashes of anxiety from time to time throughout the week but it's so much better than having multiple anxiety attacks nearly every day. it could get worse early on especially if you make mistake or have to deal with an upset customer but the more you push through and grow in confidence it should help with the anxiety.

It's not going to be easy in the beginning. I also have (mild?) social anxiety plus in general I'm not a people's person, to say the least. When I took a job nearly a year ago behind a counter, I was feeling scared. I haven't been inte acting before with customers, cater etc. But after the first few weeks I got so accustomed to it, it almost felt natural, like I'm doing it since a long time. You will realise, there might be some of "those" people, but you're going to meet a lot more nice person. Just try staying open minded and relaxed, stressing over it will only make it harder.

You will eventually get over that fear, just concentrate on doing your work, no one cares what you look like.

I know nobody care what people look like but I also dislike how people look at me and stare for a good minute and as soon as I give them direct eye contact they look always which makes me feel even ugly. ahh.

Girl, it's your own insecurity talking to you. I doubt they stare at you because they think you are unattractive. I mean, they could do it for the opposite reason

you're right. Its hard to deal with this becsuse I use to get bullied at school at a young age. I'm in my 20s now but I hope I do good at work.

As someone with social anxiett, it never fully goes away but It's something that gets better with experience. You'll be okay, just do your best

thanks for your advice. I always been thinking about counseling or talking to my doctor about my anxiety. I never been diagnosed with it but I don't know are there things I can help my anxiety?

Getting out there and making small talk with strangers, maybe buying something at the store or just waiting in line. It's uncomfortable but great practice.

It'll help you a ton! I was very socially anxious and my first job was as a cashier, it helped me immensely interacting with strangers.

yes you have to overcome It! exposure and response prevention is key! once you free yourself from anxiety's shackles life will be so free!!
