Why don't girls like classic rock?

Question

I noticed girls usually like to listen to what ever is trendy, new and well promoted in the media. I guess there is nothing wrong with that.

However I like all sorts of music...but I resisted hip hop for years because I can't stand white kids thinking they are gangstas.

I really like classic rock because of the QUALITY is timeless. The amount of creativity, talent and soul that went into the music 30/40 years ago puts our modern day artists to shame.

I'm generalizing but it seems girls eat up anything that's promoted in the media/MTV/etc. There is some good work out there...but just because it's new doesn't make it quality.

I don't know - I like all sorts of music, I love a lot of classic rock. The Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, Bowie...

But it doesn't mean I don't like modern music anyway. I know what you mean about a lot of people listening to just what's in the charts, a lot of my friends are like that - but you play them a song from the 70s and a lot of them will know it too.

Modern music is more accessible, I know when I go out with my friends for a drink, generally speaking, I'm not going to be dancing to the music of necessarily my choice, but it doesn't mean I can't enjoy it either, and it's good to know that kind of stuff as well.

It's just like fashion, things move with the times, always have and always will - and there's bound to be a lot of people out there who move with the trends and there's nothing wrong with that.

A lot of guys do it too - not just girls. I know tons of guys who only listen to what's in the charts or on the t.v - so it's not just girls.

People like what they like - but trust me there are a lot of girls out there who do like classic rock.

girls like to conform. they want to "fit in", therefore they like the newest things on the radio. it's so stupid! I myself, am a classic rock lover. the Beatles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Grateful Dead... there are so many fantastic bands from the sixties and seventies, but most girls don't take the time to appreciate it. my friends make fun of me for liking it. and all some of them listen to is that mainstream pop. I don't even listen to the radio unless it's the jazz station! but... ANYWAYS, haha, my point is: most girls like to like whatever everyone else likes so that they won't be made fun of or anything by other girls. except, those girls who don't give a damn and listen to what they want. those girls make fun of the girls who like the crap that's on the radio. I agree with you! Everyone at my school listens to the new day stuff. I can't stand it. I prefer anything from the 1940's to 90's. My favorite music is grunge/alternative rock though. I really do love Zepplin, and the Beatles, and the Stones etc. as well. Unlike a lot of people I listen to all genres even polka! lol. I like old school rap (new rap sucks, although some eminem is good) and Frank Sinatra is one of my favorite musicians. I even like classical like Beethoven and Mozart. Christian music and a lot of country and new age sh*t is what I can't stand although I do like Jason Aldean (country singer)

I think a lot of it is just socially fitting in.

Any sort of club, school dance, etc, is going to play modern trendy pop/hiphop almost exclusively. To say the least, you fit in much better in that scenario if you actually know the songs, so listening to whatever is "in" fits into the need of social acceptance. The same applies to dancing- you have to practice to whatever is being played in order to not look like a dumbass on the dance floor.

Needless to say, this is one of the main reasons I hate dances and clubs.

People like what they like. Simple as that.

Everyone has their own taste in music, whether it's generally accepted as trendy, classic, crappy, great, or whatever. Preferences in music is like taste, everyone interprets things differently, and everyone likes different things more than others.

Frankly, I enjoy classic rock, along with some trendy music, and a rainbow of things in between.

And have you ever been around girls listening to trendy radio stations? I hear more often "I HATE this song!" than "I LOVE this song!"

But yeah, it was full of Led Zep, Grateful Dead, Black Sabbath, etc. Absolutely NO mainstream pop crap at all. I find this new pop-y stuff pretty irritating, to be honest... it seems that everywhere I go, people are playin justin Bieber and Rhianna... ew. I've never been into stuff like that. But then, I've never been into stuff promoted on tv, X factor is SOOO boring, my parents never let me watch anything else at the weekend, so I always ask to use dad's computer, but I'm usually not allowed watch music videos, because we have limited internet usage... My best friend has good music taste too, so she sends me good songs onto my phone :) In fact she has GREAT taste, she loves Led Zep as well and the likes. :) <333

Secondly, I really like classical music, but I'll listen to just about everything but rap.. MODERN day rap.

Thirdly, I haven't watched MTV/VH1,2, ect. In two years. It's all crap nowadays.

But, I understand what you mean. I don't get why some girls are liking sh*t instead of art. It saddens meh!

i'm an 18 years old girl and i'm literally obsessed with classic rock, it's the real music, i hate mainstream music not because it's mainstream but because it's all about money and meaningless lyrics and the same beats the same everything. we can not even compare this ''music'' to the real and good one. bands such as led zeppelin, guns n roses, the doors are legends that will never be forgotten.
that's my opinion and it will always be even though my friends make fun of my taste but i really don't care

I like a little classic rock and know some girls who like classic rock, girls probably don't promote their like in rock as much. It's hard to say music from any age is less 'creative' than other ages because all music has it's good and bad. Someone could argue the same thing about older music and claim that it was all drug induced non-sense, that just because it's old does not make it quality or any better than music from any other time period. Music from any time period all really sounds the same when compared to other music from the same period anyways so that's not really a good argument for saying that a type of music is "special" or "unique". It all about opinions and what you're drawn too.

I'm 19. I love classic rock. It's all I listen to most of the time. The classics truly stand the test of time. I don't know what's happening to music. There is still talent, but in general, music has changed. Not so much in a good way in my opinion :P But forget trends. Go your own way. Oh, please! This has nothing to do with conforming. Men prefer masculine music; that’s why more Rock fans are men. I am a woman who has NEVER liked Rock or Heavy Metal. The sound of some guy screaming (not singing) in a hoarse, raspy voice amongst banging drums and blaring guitars is outright irritating to me. Even as a kid watching popular teen TV shows, I could not stand hearing Rock music in the background. I would mute the television. It had nothing to do with media or a desire to conform. It had everything to do with certain genres of music sounding akin to someone scratching their fingernails on a blackboard.

Well you're right that most girls like what's trendy but not all of them. I love classic rock , my sister loves it too and like 20 other girls I know love it too. Who wouldn't? its timeless and beautiful. In my opinion it depends on the girl and her personality but for sure there are many girls that like classic rock! :D

"Music" now is 100 percent about making money, they pick these pretty much random people and say "you're going to be our next star" and market the crap out of them.

I love classic rock and I hate hiphop it's just horrible. But it's true most people nowadays (not only girls) don't listen to that kind of music anymore, it's sad.

I also like other music (Rihanna, Katy Perry, Mado Diao, Nickelback ..) they're good too, but the difference between i.e rihanna and Bob Seger is huuuge.

My favorite artists are Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, CCR, Boston,Foreigner,ACDC, Kansas and Def Leppard and actually many more.

But like I said, I like some modern artists too

i feel like it's the whole generation, not just the gender. everyone listens to what's on the radio whether they actually like it or not and don't know what amazingness is out there from the classic rock era. I personally feel like I've been living under a rock as far as modern music goes because all I listen to is decades old

Honey, I love classic rock :) I like almost every genre except maybe rap. I like bands from Metallica, Iron maiden, Aerosmith, Led Zeplin all the way to Marilyn Manson and then pop such as Rihanna and Pink :)
