How do I get my shy boyfriend to break out of his shell?

Ok, so I have been going out with this guy for about a month now. He's very shy and I have no idea how to get him to come out of his shell! We text way more than we talk. We talk, but there will be this long awkward silence all the time! He's very, very shy. I'm not used to dating shy guys, I'm a real happy person who has a.d.d so I don't know how to aproach him. I really like this guy and apparently I'm his first girlfriend. How do I get him to be comfortable and be himself when we're together?

Thats a tough one. Have you tried doing an activity together that he likes? Maybe that would open him up. You seem like a person that is willing to try anything which is unlike him that might be timid to get out there. I think that doing things together might open him up more where as just having a one on one conversation could be awkward for him. If he has never had a girlfriend he is going to be unsure how to act around you and might be nervous on making the wrong move or saying the wrong thing. It also could be he has never trusted some one before but I have no idea of knowing that. Just give it time as long as you like him then just try some different stuff. Whatever you do, don't make too big a deal about it. Try to get him to talk more, but don't make a big deal over it.

Accept that he's just different and not every guy is the same. Some are shy, some are super-outgoing, some are jerks, some are nice, etc...

play a game. truth or dare or f***, marry, kill. you know games that will get him to talk something naughty. once he does open up, bust on him a bit, make it fun. should work. I try it on the girls and they come out of their shell instantly.

Keeping to topics he is passionate about is a good idea. It's probably a lot easier for him that small talk. Asking specific questions is also good. A month isn't really going to make much difference for people like him, so be prepared to stick it out and take initiative yourself in many situations.

When you are on the phone with him. Just make him feel comfortable and keep the conversation interesting. Talk about things that you two have in common that will work.
