Why do some girls take forever to get to the point when they're telling a story?

I don't understand why some girls I know take like 5 minutes to tell a story that could've been summed up into a few short sentences and it drives me crazy so I'd appreciate any explanations you have.

Three principles help you out on this one. First, (1) objective perspectives (2) exist for (3) utility (4) despite the contrary feelings people may have. E. g. A woman's feeling scared at a male's directing himself to raise an objection to her does not establish probable cause. Second, (1) people are (2) susceptible to reach decisions emotionally. Third, (1) emotional thinking (2) tends to align with sympathy with women's viewpoints and (3) their interests. E. g. I've had grown up women weeping and raging tell me about Hillary Clinton: "aw, poor lady - that Bill, what a prick. What. So you think it's okay for men to do that to women?" Alternatively, one may more coolly consider: "Two hyper-educated adults - Hillary and Bill- may reasonably be expected to know what they're getting into with each other and act accordingly. They've got free will, they've got power. I wasn't there. She's not forced to stick with Bill. What's it got to do with me anyway."
Further, you may "feel" details of a story are important. But this is not necessarily reality. Reality here is based on utility. Suppose you feel it is so to understand how Sam promised Ada she wouldn't tell Ian that Ian wasn't really Tom's father. From an objective perspective selection is key to reaching a useful decision: Sam may be/not be trusted with info. To usefully get across the issue of whether some promise was broken your story must be short and sweet: (1) did someone make a promise (2) was it broken. You'll just give proof that Sam made a promise and that Ada broke the promise by spilling the beans to Ian. Leave it up to the listener to judge for himself. This has the utility of getting independent thinking on the issue of Sam's trustworthiness with a promise.
Alternatively, you can try to make the listener's mind up for him in line with your interests. To do that, add "colorful" distracting details, create a never-ending story, tilt the upshot in your own direction, e. g.: "Sam, you know the one with the lovely hairstyle I was wearing last year? Oh my God I love her - well yeah, uhm, so Sam is like "Ada, please don't tell Ian' - and then, oh my God I hate Ada - haven't you ever been close to her and gotten this whiff of like you know, rancid oil or something,- well, yeah, so you know Ian's not even Tom's real dad - cus' you know when Sam and Tom took a break Sam met Michael, and Sam totally deserved that break, well, remember, Michael? I just think its nasty how people don't keep their promises." I. e. Tire your listener into submission, don't let him think it out for himself, e. g.: "all right lady, I geddit - Sam's a promise-breaking gingivitic oral cavity." As you can see this strategy has a defect: it makes you less useful to others. That said: I'll leave it up to you to make up your own mind on the above.

For many women, telling the story is more important than getting to the point.

Because we feel that details are important to understand the story or perhaps get the meaning. For me, I can't stand when someone leaves pertinent (or what I think is) details out of a story. I usually ask follow up questions.

I do find myself just getting to the main point with guys (which I wonder if it is sexist) because I see a glazed look (inattention) come over their eyes after a bit.
