I think women used to be a lot tougher in practice actually, but they still cared enough to embrace femininity.
Ironically women now actually do pretty much no hard work in comparison and still manage to act more abrasively, especially towards men.

It's a fantasy. Women were birthing babies without drugs and working hard. Think about it. Feeding the farm animals, baking fresh bread in wood burning stoves. Those women weren't baking bread for the fun of it and most likely would have jumped at sliced store break. In the large cities women were working at factories in the early 1900s 12 hours a day 6 or 7 days a week. Even small girls were working in factories and having injuries from sewing machines. Only the rich women had the option of being soft and gentle.
I found out one time that my gentle grandma shoveled manure at a manure plant during the winter one year to make extra money. My grandparents owned a farm and the great depression was no joke.
Judy Garland worked like a dog at the time of that picture. She was told she was fat and put on amphetamines which lead to a life long battle with addiction.
There wasn't any pressure for men to treat their wives well they had pressure to provide financially. Some men did it because they really loved or cared for their wives. Others did it to look good in society. For some women if their husbands took them down the shit road that was their fate. Divorce wasn't acceptable and rarely happened. Now if your husband is a complete jerk or has some real deal breakers women can get out.
I'd say at least 50%. I used to be naive and think 99% of people were good but I'd say it's been knocked down to 80% at the most. Good is different for different people. Some would say if a man pays the bills and doesn't cheat he's good. Some want more emotional support. Really depends on the needs of the woman. Some women don't want relationships so for them as long as the guy is honest and respectful in a casual relationship then they are ok with it.
I'd say good would be if a man is respectful whether it be a long term relationship or a hook up or just being nice to complete strangers they might cross paths with on the street.
I still enjoy taking care of a man and treating him with respect because It'd be nice to get the same in return... just my opinion but the term "feminine" can have a certain meaning to one person but then could be pretty different to someone else's thoughts on whats feminine.. everyday and everyone's different in my opinion

You also have to remember that what you see in the movies isn’t reality. My friend was telling me about his grandmother. She grew up during the depression. She married young, but her husband left her in the late 40s. She had to support her children on her own (she had 2). So she opened a bookstore.
I think that women will do what they need to do, in order to provide for their families. It’s almost impossible to live on one income today. So women will work. But stats say that they still do a large proportion of the household and childcare responsibilities. (It’s no wonder women aren’t soft!)
@chris_987 Sadly, I have to agree with you there. In today’s society when it comes to allocating resources (government homelessness services, etc.) unfortunately single men get prioritise last. It is usually single women with children who get priority first. I guess when they have limited resources, and see this group as most vulnerable, they see a need that needs to be filled first. However, that also means that homeless/single men often get overlooked for much needed resources.
