there's this girl who smiled at me. she will stare when i'm not looking, and quickly look down before i can see her when i realize that she's staring.

she'll take a few glances at me when im talking to others, or when im busy, and she always looks down when she knows im near her.

we also exchanged eye contact 3-4 times across the room, and she'll always look down when i return the eye contact that she gave.

Look man... I use to think the same in many jobs i had. There was always a girl that would do the same to me. But... There's nothing like going up to her and saying hi. Care to share something with her. Be nice. After 2 or 3 days. Let her know you've caught her starring. Do it in a friendly way. Smile but don't look nervous. Play along with it. Let her feel your cool about it. You don't need to flirt with her. Or her friend. If it comes down that you know she likes you. And you think you and her can not be. You will know if to go for it or not. Just don't hurt her, man. No need to get her hopes up, if nothing is going to go on.

im not sure why i do this, but i always have these doubts in my head.

Yeah man, that's fairly normal. I'd say it's because you lack confidence. You're looking for other reasons to tell yourself why she's looking, rather than accept that hey, maybe she likes you.
