it depends on what circumstances - maybe she knew her best friend has a crush on you and didn’t want to seem like she’s “stealing” her crush. A male colleague once sat very close to me in a public setting. And we do know each other relatively well (we hang for after works drinks sometimes and go out occasionally in the weekends). But I moved away from him because I didn’t want to set any tongues wagging or be called names by other female colleagues. Girls can be quite catty on our own kind regardless of age group 😅

Usually if my guy friend sits near me, I don't move away if I see them only as friends. I mean I don't move away from my female friends. So if she moves away, it could be that the tension was too much that she wanted space

Exactly what I was gonna say. When my boyfriend and I were still getting to know each other, he would sit pretty close and it just made me feel nervous. I don't mind so much anymore tho
