Males are just as emotional as females. Unlike females, who are free to show their emotions to males, this is denied. This is denied since childhood. Females on the other hand are allowed to be emotional, indeed they are almost promoted to show their emotions to others, and this is an immeasurable privilege. The male condition itself is oriented towards alexithymia, that is, a condition of reduced emotional awareness, which involves the inability to both recognize and verbally describe one's own emotional states and those of others. This condition was identified and described for the first time in the 1950s in patients suffering from pathologies classically defined as psychosomatic (gastroduodenal ulcer, eczema, irritable bowel syndrome, gastroesophageal reflux, asthma, etc...). Patients were led to express emotional suffering (otherwise inexpressible) through physical suffering. Levant et al. (2006; 2009) show how alexithymia, which for women is considered a pathology for men, is considered normal. This despite the man feeling emotions, he does not know how to give them a name and therefore does not recognize them as such. It all starts with the education of male children to the stereotype of male role. It is often characterized by a cold and detached virility, and therefore by a restriction of emotional expression. Boys are taught a set of explicit, but more often unspoken rules according to which emotions related to vulnerability, fear and sadness, may make them appear weak, and emotions related to attachment as needy, not self-sufficient as can be read in Pollack (1998).

You're mixing up things, grabbing from nowhere, study books of psychology from 1940s till 1970s where REAL psychology relays great information.
Just because one study from determined time says something it doesn't mean it holds true, while all modern books of psychology are still based in these books I mention early time, in a congruent strong manner. Only today we mix neuroscience, quantic and science to psychology, but that doesn't study behavior.
Just to mention a lots of people have to die to transform and created all that we know about psychology, science and medicine. If no one believes search for "[scientific/psychological] experiment with humans beings in WWII".

Woman are "emotional beings" there's this phrase for a reason. All books of physiology will tell the same, the problem relays in ignorance, THERE IS ALREADY a whole study about woman emotions, written by (scientific) woman, and by (scientific) man, hoewever society still love to think that 1. Both men and women have the ability to experience the same range of emotions. Women can openly express any emotion, which helps to process and deal with said emotion. It leaves them open and vulnerable to the next. Most men internalize emotions, processing and dealing with them on their own. It tends to make the other less insignificant emotions to not have a chance to effect them like they do women. That's why women are seen as over emotional. Men distant themselves and have many outlets for their emotions. But It's more of a distraction, to dissociate from what they are feeling. Internalizing every damn emotion is not easy and frustrating so avoidance is key. Is it healthy? Probably not but they have a lot of expectations they have to deal with and usually on their own. And all the built up emotions will come out in anger and can be triggered very easily. I honestly think that it's actually most women who don't understand the complexity of men's emotions and not the other way around. But that's just my opinion.

Yes exactly. And sadly, tbh it took me having no other option but to internalize and deal with my emotions on my own to even understand. My perspective before being this way was completely skewed by the fact that I could openly express my emotions. I can say I 100% took that for granted. I completely understand why it's hard to even express yourself to a SO. I'd rather just go on long drives blaring my music than express them. Being shamed for having emotions based on other's expectations definitely changes a person in an ingrained, unchangeable way. I have much more respect and admiration for men in general nowadays.
I am glad you understand and can relate, but also I am kind of saddened by it. It's like when you want revenge but then when you get it you just feel guilty because you know you should be better than this. I know exactly what you mean. Like you want to be like "See? Not so great is it, how do you like it?" In all honesty it utterly breaks my heart that men suffer this way for all their lives especially with expectations from every direction. I've only been dealing with it all of 2 years and I feel like screaming and punching through a wall. And since I'm a single mom I have 2 tiny humans that solely depend on me, so I even have the family responsibility and better job/more money expectations weighing on me as well. It's even more of a reason not to open up though. I can't depend on anyone else, it's just too risky and unacceptable. It definitely is more of a struggle than I ever realized and sorry doesn't even feel adequate enough. Men are without a doubt physically, emotionally, and mentally way stronger than women. They didn't have a choice. And I wholeheartedly agree with you that women need to understand. But sadly in order for that to truly happen, they would have to suffer and I just can't wish this on anyone else. Plus I can't be the only female who had to man up (Damn! It depends on how you define "emotional." Women are often more emotional when expressing colder and softer emotions such as sadness, compassion, and being able to cry in public. Men tend to be more emotional when expressing hotter and harder emotions such as anger and tend to make more drastic and irrational decisions based on their anger. The reason is because it's more socially acceptable for women to express their feelings and cry and for men to be tough. Overall, it's safe to say that men and women are probably equally emotional as us humans are emotional creatures, but both genders just express it in different ways.
Well your question brought me to do a fair bit of research before coming to an actual conclusion. I myself always thought of girls as more emotional and men as more logical.
But in every scientific article I read, they deem that to be a myth. Amygdala (the part of the brain responsible for emotions) responses in both males and females show inconsistent differences, meaning it varies based on the individual. They did notice that men have a larger response to positive stimuli and women have a larger response to negative stimuli. Men also seem to have a larger positive effect from erotica (porn) as opposed to their female counterparts. Makes sense haha. We are the hornier sex for sure.
All in all, I'm going to have to change my thinking on that. However, this subject caused me to do a little more research. Are males actually more logical than females? And apparently that's not the case either. It seems that females are actually generally better in that regard, whereas males are better in physical coordination/motor skills and spatial sense generally.

From my personal experience guys show rage and negative emotions more transforming those emotions into physical actions. Men are known for bottling but there feelings.
Whereas as a generalisation girls often calmer. As talk about there feelings with their friends.
Also in terms of emotional comparasion with break ups... Women generally find it easier to get over break ups as many have close friendship groups. Whereas men generally don't have that as much.
So to sum up I think men and women are roughly equally emotionally. Maybe from personal experience women slightly more because of their period and getting pregnant as they get maternal feelings and emotions. Men would get maternal emotions for being a parents but I guess women may slightly more as the baby grows inside them and they give birth to them. This is just my opinion.
It’s a myth. What happens is guys usually pull some nasty tricks like word salading the girl (this is where they suddenly make a bunch of statements that do not go together to deliberately confuse the girl to gain power in the argument, a common tactic by narcissists), to provoke her. When the girl reacts by yelling etc because he has pushed her to her limit (this occurs over many months gradually so when people see the girl finally lose it they believe she’s the emotional one/abuser) once the girl is at her limit the guy plays victim and does what’s called a smear campaign on her where he tells people how hard his last relationship was, how much of a bitch she was, etc. my first ex probably constantly does this about me. 😂😂

You hear girls commonly talk about breakups on the basis of just not being happy anymore (feelings). More often than not for a guy he's usually talking about something that happened that ended the relationship.
Sure, guys have emotion and yes it sometimes manifests differently. But on average women are far more emotional at a baseline and everyone honest with themselves knows that.
Love women as they are, not for what you want them to be. If you can't do that, then you don't really like women. You hate women because you can't accept them as they are.

Everyone differs. Also, just because someone handles their emotions differently, doesn’t mean the are more or less “emotional”. Findings in studies:
Men with high testosterone have been found to show more aggression and less emotional regulation.
Women tend to have access to more emotional regulation strategies than men.
Women tend to blame themselves more for uncontrollable situations, and send to use social support more than men.
Men tend to use suppression and denial more often then women. Men use more avoidant and withdrawal strategies in situations they potentially view as less controllable.
Men and women both feel emotions, however men usually have to overcome letting emotions have the best of them and women take tend to act on their emotions more freely, and because of women's natural fluctuations in hormones how we feel emotions and react to them can also change throughout the cycle. None of them are inherently bad things on their own as both of them have their own importance in a functional society.
The boys that you speak of have been raised poorly to have certain expectations of how women would respond to their advances and they don't know how to react when things don't go the way that they wanted.
I honestly think men's emotional volatility is because of societal pressure on them to be emotionless, tough and strong to the point that they literally just snap. Like all the time.
Women however aren't afraid to just be upset when something upsets them, most of the time. We understand our feelings and try to process them healthily where men might feel trapped that they can't or they'll be weak.
What I see more than anything is that although women might "cry" at everything men constantly lock up and become very short and grumpy when you can clearly see them in some sort of emotional discomfort. E. g. my friend's boyfriend always saying "it's fine, mhm, K then" when they're having an argument.
You probably haven't seen many women getting rejected so it's hard to compare that between men and women. Personally, I think boys are more emotional, women initiate the majority of breakups/divorces, the average man is almost 4 times more likely to kill himself than the average woman, a divorced man is significantly more likely to kill himself than the average man. Divorced men twice as likely to commit suicide when compared to married men, with women there is no significant difference between married and divorced, when it comes to suicide statistics. This could just prove men don't get the emotional support they need, but regardless I think it shows that men are more emotional than we (society) give them credit for.
I think you've misinterpreted the suicide stats for men, men are 4 times more likely to be successful with suicide as they choose more lethal methods than women do (natural predisposition towards violence on average)

According to BMC psychiatry's 2017 study, women make less serious suicide attempts than men. Of course there are biological differences between male and female. It's scientifically proven that women don't handle stress as much and get stressed out easier. So a woman doing the same job as man is likely to be way more stressed than him, for example. You say we bottle it up, and you're not wrong, but you seem to totally skip over the "why?". Society isn't as accepting of emotional men, when we try to vent, we get told to suck it up and toughen up. It's easy to ignore this because society assumes men can't be oppressed in anyway, but we get emotionally oppressed. When women get offended, it's a real problem that people have to pay attention to, when men get offended, we brush it off and laugh, either assuming it was a joke, or else we make jokes about how that makes them less masculine. When women get hit in public by men (look up the social experiments on this matter) people rush in to help, when it's reversed and women hit men in public, people will assume he fucked up and deserves it, they pretend they saw nothing, and some will even cheer it on, as if beating up men empowers women.
I'd say women and men are about equal when compared emotionally. Women are just "'portrayed" as more emotional because women and men often have different emotional reactions to things. Women are more prone to crying while men are more prone to anger and rage. However for some reason, anger is always set on the back burner of an emotional scale. Even in fictional realms like movies or books when someone storms off in a rage you hear "oh they just need time to cool off" but if someone runs away in tears it's "I better go talk to them"
There isn't any less emotion. It's just being experienced in a different way.
Part of that is imputable to the natural production of estrogens, which is also one of the reasons why during periods of instability, such as menstruations, some of you tend to be lunatic for a period of time. Testosterone is a stabilizer, under that aspect, and you don't generate nearly enough to keep that kind of emotional event under stricter control. Thinking that men don't cry or aren't moved by certain events or depictions is stupid and rather stereotipical. Producing testosterone doesn't make us immune to sadness nor unable to cry. It only makes us more capable of handling our emotional loads.
Boys and girls have the same range of emotions the difference is how we are taught to deal with them. Social norms say that girls are allowed to express their feelings. Whereas boy are considered weak if they show their emotions. Hopefully this will change. The more people educate themselves the more they will be open to questioning social norms and empathizing with those who don’t fit into those outdated norms.
Both men and women are equally emotional. The only thing is that men are hiding their feelings, because men are afraid to comes across as weak. If we are emotional, it can be too much for a girl to handle. Some girls want men to be vulnerable, but if we get vulnerable with a girl, there is a chance it's too much for her and lwill eave you. Well I've seen TV shows where a girl cries jus because she's fat and the scale said she's "1stone" higher than what she thought she was... I've seen TV shows where girls cry off winning an X factor audition... I've seen girls cry over anything and everything... I can't speak for all guys, but as myself, I can say I rarely ever feel anything or care about anything, I wouldn't even care if my mum died, I'd jus be like oh... N continue my life, I wouldn't even shed a single tear... Nothing really bothers me at all and nothing that happens in life matters to me... I could be, or possibly even a psychopath, I've seen real online murder videos on the internet where other people reacting to these vids are emotionally scarred by it or say they felt a certain way after watching it... Girls in my learning disabilities college and high school were more emotional and some guys just leave the class. It depends on what you seen or experience. My high school was a learning disabilities and one my female teacher said you should stop ceyin your a young women and women don't cry. This why I always did go in the girls Toliet. We're probably more likely to become angry, after all testosterone increases aggression. But in particular a mixture of cortisol (the stress hormone) with testosterone will cause an outburst.
I'm not a biologist so I'm obviously no expert, but this is the common "nature vs. nurture" debare. In my view, and I think most rational people will agree, is that it's a combination of both. Your hormones are what creates your emotions so obviously, different hormones are going to affect how we act, but there are still a lot we don't understand about the ways different chemicals affect us. My experience is that both men and women are emotional but they show it in different ways. How much of that is down to biology and how much is cultural is something we still don't really know.

What women dont understand is that all those emotions they are feeling... guys feel them also.. they are just raised in society to handle it differently. we keep it inside. deep down. thats why after a breakup we fuck around to try to ease the pain. Or we just get depressed and it takes much longer to get over a break up.
No, I don't think so. Anger is also an emotion, which some guys are really good at expressing. They think we're emotional for crying at cute animal videos when we're on our periods, but apparently boys aren't emotional when they punch walls, scream their lungs out at sports events, or shoot up schools and malls. :)

If you're talking about them being more "emotionally reactive" then yes. If you look at other parameters like empathy it's the same.
As for situations like this: "I’ve seen boys just fulls on rage just because of being rejected or me saying they did something even the slightest bit wrong." Those are not equivalent scenarios between men and women. The same event happening to a woman does not necessarily have the same level of repercussions as on a man. So their reactions become hard to compare.
I think its a myth, being emotional in some situations does not have anything to do with gender. But in some cases (for example, pregnancy) women are more emotional. İn my case, guys are more emotional than me.
Everyone is emotional in different ways it depends on the person. I wouldn’t say either is more than the other. I’m a person who has crazy mood swings in my eyes but may seem completely calm to others and a guy I know might seem completely irrational with his emotions but because of what he’s going through at that moment he might be acting up but overall be more level headed than I.
I would say most men under 35 are not very manly anymore. Most strike me as girlie men. So if you guage younger men, yes, emotional.
Older, more stoic and if they have emotions, you won't see it unless they get pissed off. If they do show it, most older guys see it as weakness. Even if you lose your arm, or whatever. Stone cold is the way.
Your examples are due to men’s biology. We don’t like being challenged even if we like the challenge. Us getting rejected is y’all knocking us down a peg and if you say we do something slightly wrong challenges our view of what we did. Also since you’re 14 most guys that age haven’t matured enough to control themselves. But in general women cry and express emotions more.
Guys get angry and are more prideful. Girls get sad and get more anxious, happy, frustrated, and jealous. I've seen women's emotions change much more rapidly than guys' emotions. But, zoomers And millennials are more feminine than previous generations, so now with guys being told to express themselves more when our primary emotion is anger, you get guys impotently screeching everywhere.
Women cry over sad movies, broken nails. You talk about your feelings more than guys etc.
Also you're 14. So I'm guessing the guys you're talking about are teenage boys who're going through puberty, hence the lack of self control over their anger
Men produce 7x more total testosterone than women. Women have much more estradiol than men. These hormones have polar opposite characteristics in a lot of ways. If you were to go to an endocrinologist, they would tell you how much our hormones have an impact our behavior and emotions. What you’re suggesting is biologically false.
Men have been the ones to go out and fight the wars while the women were home with the vulnerable ones. I. e. children.
Men being able to shove emotion aside to protect or to take the cold decisons where there is only the least bad option requires ignoring the intuitive perspective at times.
But men feel and feel very deeply. Women manifest more because it is socially safer for them to do so.
Then women better learn to shove their emotions aside and protect themselves quickly, or we better go back to sexism. It's crazy how we (as a society) are trying to remove all traditional roles from women so they can be and do whatever they want, but at the same time we are telling men that they need to be strong, stoic, traditional men. Then we also tell men that modern women want an emotional man, so now he has to be strong, stoic, traditional, manly, and now he also has to somehow be emotional... but not too emotional because women still want a traditional protector and provider, she just wants a modern protector and provider who won't question her, will let her do whatever she wants, whenever she wants, and he'll do both his traditional job and half of her traditional job as well (cause women want to split the chores now adays but not the bills).
Either give up on protector/provider and protect/provide for yourself, or else go back to traditional because this bs hypocrisy makes it impossible for us to know what women actually want. In my opinion, both genders are equally emotional, just in different ways. Specifically, jealousy and anger don't have a monopoly on one gender or the other.
I think it's adherence to a sociological mold more than any real difference. Psychologists believe that whst we believe are rational decisions made by the later developing neo-cortical region of the brain but the current theory is that decisions are made based on emotions, both men's and women's from the deeper, older limbic part o0f the brain. After the decisions has been made, it get's rationalized by the executive functions that are part of the neo-corteex
They express emotions differently. Also boys are taught to internalize their emotions and as politically incorrect is it for me to say this: it’s a good thing. Men need to be tough/stoic. But they also need a place to privately ventilate their emotions and/or get it out through productive activity (sports, fitness, work).
But just a heads up just because a man doesn’t show his emotions do NOT assume everything is okay. Be careful what you say to them. They aren’t bulletproof.
Generally they are yeah. That doesn't necessarily mean they are more empathetic or loving... they are more EVERYTHING, which can be pretty volatile XD they need a stable and rational man to keep em in line. This is the general rule, there are tons of exceptions of course, but it leans in this direction
They’re less in control of their emotions and allow their emotions to control their decision making; they also have a much harder time identifying their emotions. Who am I talking about? Females obviously. Men are as emotional but we learn to manage them and understand them early in life, females never learn.
Did you read the article you posted? It clearly states "Women do appear to react more negatively to unpleasant experiences in experimental settings". So, going by the evidence, I would have to conclude that women are more emotional. It also matches with my actual experience.
Lol more studies have always shown that women are emotional than men.
Boys are direct, lol and girls don't show directly they attack indirectly they don't like direct confrontation so they wait and pounce at right moment.

I feel that other boys and men including myself we're kind of taught at a young age to hide emotions and now it's kind of second nature for many guys and it's a hard habit to break when you don't even realize you're doing it. Also I think the testosterone equals aggression thing was a myth and it had a little to no impact or very weak link to aggression. Guys are raised and taught differently and females and thus act differently when they grow up. That's the best answer I can give.

But I guess it does depend on how you define being emotional.. is it expressing it more or feeling higher lows and downs?
Feeling higher lows and downs. Expressing your emotions is separate from being emotional, think of women who were beaten by their husbands for years while hiding it. The fact that she hides her bruises and her tears doesn't mean it hurts less. Likewise, a child who cries for an hour straight because he had his toy taken away, the fact that he expresses the hell out of that emotion doesn't make it worse than people who have suffered for years. Some people hide their pain and others wear it on their sleeve, others have very healthy levels of emotional expression.
Just ask a Trans who began taking Testosterone and went on Estrogen HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy). I have read that compared to being a testosterone saturated male, to block testosterone and take estrogen makes them highly prone to extreme mood swings and way too much crying, in general. That appears to be universally agreed among tham.

Yes, 100%. I am a little confused because your own source says so too but besides that I think the difference isn't even small from what I have experienced. Anger seems to be one of the emotions men are 'allowed' to show. I was reading through the studies once but sadly I can't exactly remember the reasoning behind it.
I’d say girls show emotions while guys hide it. Again it depends on individual, some are more emotional some less. I still think women are more, cause guys won’t show it. So we don’t really know what they are going through unless they tell us. :D
It's a more of a personality trait. Some girls can be just as detached as any other person. I met a girl whose loved to walk on terrace walls of her 6 storied building and she was as calm as ice. Yaa but you also get more drama queens in girls than boys. Maybe it's just girl community or peer pressure or maybe they are just exploring their emotional side. I am not sure. Even I also wanted to know why this happens?
Guys are typically better at hiding their emotions, though they feel just as much as we do. Society has taught guys that if you show emotions, it means you're a pussy.

As children, most boys are still trained to hide their emotions for fear of being seen as weak. Only rage is acceptable. Even a lot of girls make fun of boys who express other emotions. Girls are given far more leeway to express a wide range of emotions.
Um... I know a lot of emotional girls but I do think boys get more emotional but usually not crying. It depends on the person, emotion doesn’t mean just crying but I do think women deal with more
Well i would say that Emotion are based on environmental factors as girls from birth are treated as fragile they develop emotions according to that but boys are treated to be dominating so they are usually less emotional. I am an emotional guy, I have feelings, I cry when something upsets me or someone I know passes away and I was close to that person, I wear my emotions on my sleeve as they say.
I do think girls are more emotional then boys, for sure.
For girls the "average emotional state" is probably higher. But for guys the variance is orders of magnitude beyond women due to the extremity of outliers.
They often feel more free to express their emotions than boys do but boys experience emotions just as deeply and as wide of a range of emotions as girls
Myth. Men and women are both. But it depends who it weighs in with more. I’ve seen men, even me, are emotional. Women too. So I think both can be that way.

It's a stereotype, but like most stereotypes there is a lot of truth in this one. There is no question girls are more emotional than guys. All you have to do is look around you. The evidence is everywhere. It's not a bad thing, but it's a fact.
From my many years of experience, both men and women are emotional beings. Its just that women tend to be more sensitive, not necessarily more emotional.
@devilman666 women are more likely to have their feelings hurt. Men are a bit less likely to have their feelings hurt. But when men get hurt, they get very EMOTIONAL too. When men get emotional, they tend to hide it and pretend they are not in pain. When women are hurt, they tend to talk about it with their best friends / family.
@devilman666 I talk to a lot of guy friends about their inner most thought and feelings. That’s how I know. Men don’t tend to tell their inner most thoughts to other men. They do it to women. Trust me, when they do this. They are just as emotional as women
