I know a lot of people who care more about money, status and beauty than they do out character and they end up miserable and in abusive relationships that they are afraid to get out of because of shared children and friends and church and financial entanglement or just the difficulty of managing a house by themselves without a helper to divide the labour with them. Someone can be a nice person but not the kind you want in a love relationship. There are many reasons - personalities don't mesh, characteristics you want that aren't there & zillions of other things.

A person has the right to decide on the type of person he or she wants & to hold out for that person. That said, one needs to have reasonable expectations & be reasonably accommodating. If one insists on someone who doesn't exist he or she will likely remain unmated.
