What‘s a good answer to „Why are you shy“?

I went to a birthday party yesterday. There were 6 people, two of them were my friends and it was the first time I met the other 3 which is why I was a little shy. One of the other girls asked me „Why are you so shy?“ And it really hurt my feelings and made me feel uncomfortable. I didn‘t know what to say. Do you think it‘s rude to ask people that question? What are you supposed to answer?

Yeah, that's rude, or at the very least, thoughtless.
I've been there.
It's the last thing in the world you'd expect to hear someone say, so it catches you off guard.
All you can do is wing it, because the next rude thing that someone says to you will be totally unexpected as well.
The person who asked you may have detected your discomfort and felt sorry for asking, but may not have been brave enough to apologize.
Or not.
About all I've found I can do in those types of circumstances is to shake it off and go on living.

I think you should not worry about it much being shy never defines a person's quality that they are introvert or extrovert, or they are confident enough to talk or not.

It's the thing of interest only like as you met them for the first time you were not expecting that they will ask you a question directly.

So, don't worry much it happens with everyone abd the next time when someone ask you why are you so shy simply say that I am giving you chance to speak as I speak a lot and then start talking anything 😅

That’s a good question lol, honestly I sort of shrug and say I don't know so maybe be dismissive about it , cuz I mean as if it matters that ur shy or not lol.

I just tell them that I don't like people when someone asks me why I'm so quiet, either that or I tell them cause I don't like to talk

Say "why are you the way you are?" lol. Or bring something like that about them up.
