When someone is or get to point of being confident as you are, the answer is to get those shy persons to open up about themselves because most people are their own favorite subject. That's why when you're on a date and make people feel good about themselves, they'll tie all the positive energy to you.

I think because it is usually when they start showing signs of ageing.
Many people start showing signs of aging as young as 16/17. Everybody ages. I haven't aged much and still look like a young teenager. Not close to older teens unless I am in a place where many older teens are expected to be. Stress can impact you a lot. Plus I have seen a lot of guys showing signs of aging quicker by 17.

It's not about being unattractive. It is about whether or not he wants to love her and be involved in her love. Do you know how many men divorce and cheat on attractive women? All the time.
