Lol. Come on now. Shaming short men is fun for them BECAUSE it's something that can't be controlled. "You're too short" = "you're not good enough for me" = "I'm better than you" and there's nothing you can do about it. The point of the statement isn't necessarily to shame, its to claim superiority.

Natural adjustment. Taller people have higher chances to survive than shorter ones. That's why nature promotes it, making women prefer taller men, so they would breed and have higher children, rather than smaller.
