Why would low self esteem be a reason not to use social media?

I asked this other girl why she doesn’t have instagram and she replied to me by saying “Because I have low self esteem.”

There is no good reason to use social media other than narcissism. I suspect this girl is fairly realistic and doesn't think her latte coffee pic is worth thousands of likes because no coffee is. With most girls unrealistically thinking they are a 10 and are wonderful and so fantastic, she probably realistically sees herself as being less egotistical than nearly all other girls.

But then mistakenly describes this as low esteem.

From someone who has an eating disorder and body issues, social media sites (like Instagram) are absolutely toxic for your mental health.

Because social media shows the "best moments" of someone's life and is filled with thirst traps and constant judgement/sensitive content.
