Ok so I let my girlfriend drive my car the other night and she swerved suddenly and I’m like what just happened she goes I did that to avoid roadkill. Ok so it wasn’t a deer or anything it was a small animal. Anyways this turned into a huge argument because I felt she endangered us to by swerving into another lane to avoid running over an already dead animal. Like she said she didn’t want to run over it again and wanted it to stay in tact but I’m like it’s already decomposing. We both are newer drivers we just got our license last fall but I have never heard of anything like this
If there's no one in the other lane, I'd much rather swerve around it- I don't want to have to clean that off my car, and there's still some damage that can be done if you hit even a smaller animal. If the other lane has traffic and I can't stop in time to avoid it, of course I'll hit it, but if I can avoid it, I will.

Generally speaking, one tries not to run over obstructions in the road! “Swerving” is not a good driving behavior. …but you should not run over things that are in the road.
I think most people try not to hit roadkill because they don't want that nastiness on their car. Usually you can see it from way up ahead and do it safely, though.
Yes its best to go around things in the road. Maybe I'm just paranoid but you never wanna hit something that could be a potential bomb

Well if there’s not oncoming traffic I try to avoid running over anything other than the road
I find the imagination to run over a dead animal very odd and i definitively would try to avoid that too...
You have to train yourself to drive right through it or there's a very high chance you will kill yourself and/or someone else.
