Why do older women tell me out of no where that they used to look like me?

Sometimes when I run errands, I notice that older women chat with me and tell me things like - you look slim, I used to be like you... you have long hair, I used to have long hair etc... Why do women do that?

How much older? I know women in their 60's who look great. Anyway, this is not for your benefit, and in my opinion it's fairly intrusive.
