Did I get rejected cause I wasn’t enough or cause she just got out of a relationship?

There is a girl I’ve been “friends” with but I met her when she was on on off with her last boyfriend of a couple of years. They had a lot of issues and she seemed to be depressed about life up to this day.

She was flirty and we were both touchy with each other. We spent one on one time together once she was single and I got a lot of “signs” for me to pull the trigger on her. Let’s just saying I got a lot of signs.

It had been two months since they broke up but she rejected me saying that she wasn’t trying to talk to anyone right now and that she hoped to understand and that I she hoped we could stay being friends. I took it as a gentle rejection, but I was just confused based on our time together during the months before I asked.

Not that there is a chance, but do women reject guys they find attractive if they’re fresh out of a toxic relationship?

Don’t ever question if you’re enough, you are. She is emotionally unavailable to you as she is probably still cycling through a lot of emotions. She may have flirted with you but sometimes there is just this void that you’re trying to fill now that the previous relationship ended. I wouldn’t jump into anything with her right away regardless since there is a high chance that you would be rebound. The most you can do is set boundaries and be her friend. If you guys date later that’s great, but if you don’t that is ok too.

I think either way it’s a sign that she’s emotionally unavailable for you and you deserve someone that can give emotional aspects to you. She probably accepted the banter because it was a distraction from the pain she was going through

Makes sense. This sounds like I’m full of myself but I’m just confused. I know when a girl isn’t into me or is into me, this is the first time I got it wrong. Could it be that she was still attracted physically?

This is the one case I thought I was 99% sure she was attracted to me and got rejected

@asker it depends honestly. From my experiences toxic relationships warp your thinking patterns and sometimes a woman might cling onto someone she doesn’t typically like because he seems at least a little better than what she is going through at the moment.

Honestly as a girl, it's pointless to think about it. If she says she isn't ready for anyone than just take it as that. It's easier for yourself and self doubt is pointless. I'm straight forward person and if I say I'm not ready for relationship then I do mean it literally like that and I'm sure there are many girls who are exactly like that as well

Its not going to happen. You were a distraction to keep her mind occupied. The fact of the matter is timing means nothing. If she was into you it wouldn't matter about getting out of a relationship. She stated what she wants, a friend, and you need to take her at her word. She wasn't speaking in code.
