let’s say you go out with a friend and you dress up really nice and are getting a lot of compliments from the event. At the end of the event while you’re with your friend you’re talking about being catcalled and she just randomly says “it must suck being really pretty they must get catcalled a lot” talking about any other pretty woman not yourself.

Would you think this is shady?

Hmm that does seem kinda shady to me. Like why would she randomly bring that up unless she was low-key jealous of the attention you were getting?

I'd be wondering like, was she tryna put me down a little by implying I must get catcalled all the time? Or was she tryna compliment me in a backhanded way by calling me pretty?

Either way it just sounds insecure the way she brought some other girl into it instead of just saying "you look really good tonight" or something normal like that. Like she had to make it about catcalling instead of your outfit or how you were feeling.

I'd be watching her a little closer after that. Some friends will try to disguise putting you down as a "compliment." Like girl bye, I see what you're doing! Just be real with me if you're jealous, no tricks.

I'd probably just smile and change the subject. But I'd be looking at her sideways from now on when we go out, that's for sure!
