Most people who commit themselves to a given narrative practice willful ignorance when meaningful information comes to light that directly and powerfully refutes that narrative.
There’s an excellent book called “Being Wrong” by Kathryn Schultz that explores those kinds of things. I think it should be mandatory reading at every level of education.

Probably because most of them haven't read her book, and are simply presented with her conclusions without explanation. If they actually get one, well, people spend their whole lives inundated with the idea that to be a woman is to be a victim, and vice versa, and few bother to question it (and those who DO get smacked down pretty harshly); something flying directly in the face of it, even if only to say "Men have problems, too, and we as a society ignore them at the peril of all of us", is NOT going to be well received.
And that's just normal people. Feminists in particular (though I stress they're not alone in this) have a great deal invested in their own notions of victimhood and helplessness, not from personal experience or choices, but inherent to their gender. To challenge that is to challenge the core of their dogma.
