Was I wrong to tell Climate Activist neighbour that that she should lose weight to save the environment?

She was criticising my family's carbon footprint and how we don't have an electric car and basically compared us to the nazis and I responded that she has a far higher carbon footprint. She asked how and I pointed out that because she is obese she eats 4 times as much food which uses 4 times the carbon to transport and grow, she requires 5 times the fabric to cloth herself which requires more carbon to make, grow and transport. That she weighs more so any transport she uses requires 4 times the energy to move her. She takes up two seats on planes and trains. Her weight causes more wear and tear on vehicles, so it does. I could have gone on about how her weight drives up the cost of healthcare and health insurance.

I thought she was going to hit me but she walked away with a face like a bulldog. My partner said that it was a little mean but she came over to our front garden to gave me a piece of her mind. Good for her protesting about climate change every weekend.

Making the stupid batteries for the stupid electric car causes more environmental pollution than buying a giant truck and driving it for half a million miles. Then you have to use oil or natural gas to make the electricity, push the electricity through the wires from the power station, make a charger which costs more electricity and more resources and creates more pollution, make the electric car which causes more pollution and uses more electricity, then you have to dispose of a battery that is toxic waste after the electric car takes the shit. Not to mention the slave labor in third world countries required to mine the materials for the batteries, and the hazardous materials the workers are exposed to you from those batteries. The list goes on and on. Nobody realizes what goes into making an electric car, especially the pollution caused by making and disposing of the batteries. Your fat idiot neighbor needs to stay in her lane and her yard. Here's what you need to do- Go get a 2003 Ford F-250 diesel with the stock turbo, remove the muffler and have the exhaust pipe dump out underneath the bed. Start that fucker up at 5:00 in the morning every morning. It will sound like a small jet engine, the most obnoxious sounding vehicle ever

Climate Activist is probably not the right expression lol, I don't think an actual activist would bother talking about electric cars in some random middle class garden. In how you described her, which is not much, yet... I have this impression that you're just dealing with someone's obsessions, these obsessions are about climate right now, but it could have been about summer dresses or colored trashcans.

The weight thing was uncalled for. You are better than that and need not lower yourself to grade school level insulting. You could have explained to her the fact that the electric cars have a far higher carbon footprint than gas because of all the mining for precious metals needed to make the batteries, the toxins in them, and the energy costs to try to recycle them once they go bad. Sounds like a Karen though, so I am not sure logic and reason would have worked.

I'm going to disagree with some other's opinions here. You may have done a good job of one-upmanship. But I don't think it is a matter of right or wrong so much as it is how we choose to relate to others. I don't think it is every "wrong" to be kind, even when someone else is really annoying or, actually, in the wrong as I believe your neighbor was. But confrontation only and more confrontation and tension, whereas kindness can truly conquer.
