Because by the age of, say 46:

    - you know everything already; and

    - if new stuff happens in the world its a sign that it is crumbling around you, and is nowhere near as good as it was when you were young, and we'll all be rooned soon, and

    - most importantly it has nothing to do with you sitting on your big fat... errr... lounge chair and never investing in making yourself better, because

    - you already had all this stuff worked out perfectly 20 years ago and your impeccable judgment, moral values, understanding of yourself and the world you inhabit and the meaning of life, the universe and everything was perfect so why would you possibly bother to think anything, ever, at all until

    - you die... surprise ending.

    Duh!!

Because we feel like we should have already "arrived" in life, and we associate ignorance as something shameful.

As for me I’m going to get to the bottom of this bucket of clams & ask you straight out.

What are you embarrassed about learning? Talk to me, I’m listening.

As for us we learn a lot of things throughout our lives. Some people learn things early & some people learn things later on in life. Some people learn easily & some people have a hard time learning. Some people learn from others & others learn by trial & error.

Learning is a wonderful thing & if you are a certain age there is no need to feel embarrassed.

I don't think age is a factor per se, instead I think it's about how one's relation to knowledge has been shaped. I can see how embarrassment could be invasive for people growing up and/or living in environments where social expectations are constantly high, where showing ignorance is socially punished. This would trigger/maintain a shameful relation to knowledge.

I have no clue why anyone would feel that way. I would not be embarrassed to learn something new at an older age.

Who thinks learning new things becomes embarrassing after a certain age? Not me. I get bored easily. I'm constantly looking for new stuff to feed my brain. I'm happy to have almost anyone teach me something new if it's interesting or useful.

That would be a tragedy to think that, it's anything but. Learning new things at any age is important even before you die.

I guess it depends on what you learned if it's something obvious that people know much earlier in life that might be embarrassing a little but most things it's just something you haven't been exposed to.

It should not be an embarrassment to learn something new. It is an accomplishment at any age. There are always new things to learn.
