What's the difference between protective and clingy?

girls wheres the line drawn when it comes to protective and clingy? do you like a guy to not care at all when you talk and flirt with other guys or go places without him?

Protection - You try to prevent anything bad from happening to your girlfriend because you care for her.

Ex. You tell your girlfriend to be very careful or not to go somewhere because the crime rate at that place is high.

Clingy - Overly attached. Somewhat possessive.

Ex. Calling obsessively, you don't want to anything besides hang out with that person (you won't even them their own air to breathe), you constantly want to be connected to this person and won't let go.

but as far as him getting jealous/insecure/protectice when other guys hit on me/flirt me, I think it's adorable and reassures me that he wants me all to himself

Protective is telling a girl not to go walking down a dangerous street at 3 a.m. or pushing a girl out of the way of an oncoming car. Being protective can also be putting your arm around a girl to let her know you have her back or standing by her during a hard time in her life. Being clingy is ordering her around, picking out her clothes, or going through her phone. Girls want to be protected because it shows you care, but they don't want to be controlled or bossed around.
