G@G is Giving Back: New Options to Redeem Your Xper Points!

Hey everyone!

We are very excited to announce that we have recently added two new options to redeem your points! You can now choose to redeem 7000 Xper points and GirlsAskGuys will make a $20 donation on your behalf to either The Trevor Project or The Global Fund for Women!

The Trevor Project

The Trevor Project was founded in 1998 by the creators of the Academy Award®-winning short film TREVOR. They provide numerous programs, education, resources, crisis intervention, and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ young people between the ages of 13-24. They also focus on research initiatives and advocacy to make change.

The Global Fund for Women

The Global Fund for Women was founded in 1987 in Palo Alto, California, by four women: Anne Firth Murray, Frances Kissling, Laura Lederer, and Nita Barrow. It is an organization that focuses on improving the lives of all women and girls. Using their resources and networks, they campaign for zero violence, economic and political empowerment, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and many other issues for women everywhere.

We are so happy to bring these two new Xper redeem options to GAG. We are thankful for all of our awesome users so this is our way of giving back to people and communities around the world! :)

Because of the amount of time it took for me to accumulate 7,000 points I'd have to spend it either on the Amazon card or the TGI Friday's Gift Card, but I haven't decided which one at this time. And because I really don't trust charities, so I'll have to pass. Maybe if somehow when we reach a certain level like Guru or Master and the amount of points to redeem previous rewards like the Amazon card is reduced to 4,000 points instead of 7,000 points I'd reconsider donating some points to charity, but 7,000 points is just way too much to me, since it took very long for me reach 7,000 points and I had manage to only reach it a total of 3 times the entire time I've been here.

I was wondering why not add rewards for iTunes Store and Google Play at much lower rates of 3,000 points each to get an app, a song, or whatever available, after all mobile devices are common these days.

@GirlsAskGuys I brought them up last time a long while back, don't know if you guys are still interested to go forward with it anytime soon before the end of this year.

I mean c'mon, technology is the thing these days, I don't see why not. Your fanbase and community would grow exponentially and faster than ever before, trust me.

There are a crowd of gamers here, and if you can add those rewards, I bet you they'd be on this site a lot more frequently and more active. It would attract a bigger crowd of users than ever before. Even websites that focus on gaming haven't even considered offering prizes like these, namely GameFAQs or IGN, but they might offer them in contests or sweepstakes, but you'd be one step ahead of those very popular gaming websites.

So, we have the option of donating to a group that is advocating change of what exactly? Homosexuality is, at least in the west, legal. Their are also, as far as I know no rights that homsexuals do not have in our society. In the west, and specifically in the US homosexuals are not only being given equal rights but in fact are now fighting for the right to force others to accept them thus in fact violating the rights of others. So not really sure why that would be on the list. Especially when you consider that 78% of all suicide victims are males yet we have no programs for them. Why do we only care about a suicidal male if he happens to be attracted to other men? Shouldn't we just try and help any one who is suicidal?(and maybe target and actively try and help the population that makes up the nearly 80% of suicide victims?)

Why would I wish to donate to an organization that only cares about women? Women are statistically better off in nearly all catagories in all societies in the world. Might as well donate money to the rich, they are not the ones in need and they, women, have so many organizations that push for them to have more and more privileges and rights (which they have in surplus while men have none of). Way to think outside the box. maybe set something up where people can just help people instead of focusing on special groups that already have everything they could ever need. (Not to mention that charities give very little of the proceeds to the actual cause as most of it goes to paying people for their help, paying for advertising etc. So your not only discriminating against those who actually need help, your doing it inefficiently too.)

But yeah, its pretty messed up that we focus on the smallest population possible and ignore the majority then claim that the people who point this out are some how sexist/homophobic/transphobic/what-ever-phobic. If you help men who are suicidal not only do you help them but you help the incredibly smaller population of suicidal gay men, instead they want to focus on the smallest population they can while letting the majority suffer. Yeah I was kind of wondering that as well. Not that there's anything wrong with these particular charities, but I think there are more pressing matters at hand here. Definitely the hurricane and maybe also the tens of thousands of people in Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest who have been displaced for almost 2 months by the multiple massive wildfires, which are spreading farther and farther at this moment.

There are hundreds of potential charities and organizations that people can donate to and unfortunately, we could only pick 2 so we tried to find organizations that would potentially appeal to a large amount of people and people from multiple different countries. If you would prefer to donate your money to organizations that support the relief efforts of Hurricane Harvey specifically or other natural disasters instead, we absolutely understand. :)

I don't give to charities. I prefer to give money directly to people who are in need , because for most charities, a large chunk of the money goes towards salaries and not the people who actually need help.

Understandable. There are ways to look into specific charities though and see where the money is going. A great example is charitynavigator. org which rates charities based on many factors such as transparency and financial accountability. It even breaks down where the money is going. For example, The Trevor Project has a 4 star rating. 80% of the money they take in goes directly towards the programs and services they provide. The rest goes towards expenses for fundraising events, and then administrative expenses, etc. www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm

You don't have to donate here, it's just an example. You can look up any charity you are curious about. Some are definitely better than others. :)

I'm also in the camp that thinks that these charities have a bit of a liberal bias as well. That being said, I think that it's a good idea. I would just recommend adding some more charities to the list over time, some with less of a feminist bias and some without a political bias at all, like ALS, Cerebral Palsy and relief for Texas.

I'm with you. I know it's a good cause, but I give to animal charities and family charities, I donate unwanted stuff to them and buy all my clothes there. I give lifts and food to beggars, and that's how I do my bit. That does NOT make me a saint, but I think I would like to spend a little on myself - if I ever get the chance!
