Thanks, I actually never pay attention to who is a mod on this site or not but I was curious as to what they could and could not do.
Wow thank you. Time well spent. I mean it this time :)
Can mods edit posts if the poster messed up something that is small, but really needs to be fixed?
Great take by the way.
No, unfortunately, we don't have that ability either. Only the admins can do that.
mods are regular users, so no, they don't have access to that as well. Only admins can.
Don't admin get paid? Thanks for clarifying everything!
Yes, Admins work for the site so they get paid. Moderators do not.
If you can hide posts, why are there so many horrible questions and opinions and comments out there?
Did you read the take? Lol Just because we can hide things doesn't mean we'll catch everything that gets posted, and also, the admins are the ones who really decides what gets removed anyway.
Obviously.
That's not what I asked, but okay.
You said "why are there so many horrible questions and opinions and comments out there?" Which I addressed in my take. If we don't see it we can't hide it. We're not monitoring every single thing that is posted on the site. Which is why I mentioned if someone sees a post that breaks the guidelines, they should report it or message a moderator or admin directly.
That's the only conclusion I can come to based on how you worded your question. If you meant something else then please elaborate.
Never mind.
Great take ahah I was wondering about some of these earlier
Thank you
So I have a question. Being a moderator is a volunteer job correct? It seems like a lot of work for nothing. Why volunteer to be a moderator?
It's not a lot of work at all. We use the site the same as every other user does and just hide posts that we come across that violate the guidelines. It doesn't really require any extra effort.
@xHoneyxBeex Why do people volunteer to be a moderator?
Most users get asked by the admins to do it so they just respond either "yes" or "no."
We're no different to you, just when we're on a question and see something that breaks the rules, we hide it. Only takes two seconds and helps towards keeping GaG a nice place to be. The second time I became a mod, they asked me to be one and I said yes. I don't really know why I like to be a moderator, I guess I like helping out?
Yup, I can vouch for this - I got a message from GAG asking me if I'd like to be a moderator, and I ought to reply whether I'm interested or not. And so I did!
Essentially, you need to be a bit on the lookout to see where things go horribly wrong in the comment section, and if it's inappropriate (doesn't match the guidelines), then just hide it. The admins decide if it really is meant to be removed.
Please note, only Super Mods and above can hide questions.
Excellent. Helpful topic, maybe you should have one on faq or help topics?
You do great work, all of you. Thank you! :)
depends... i think they just protect their friends or who they like, but meh...
there should be an election for mods, if they do shit, then dump them and choose somebody else.
Admins do change up the Mods.
If we step out of line, or don't do enough, we get warnings, then have the status removed.
Then, they select new Mods from the most active posters who are interested.
There shld be stringent selection of mods.
I find some are biased...
If you feel a moderator is abusing their power, contact an admin, explain your situation and preferably provide proof of what's been happening and something will be done about them.
I doubt the admin too
Good job on explaining the mod status details, HoneyBee. :)
So basically you guys are just a line of communication to the admins then?
Not really, anyone can communicate with the admins by sending them a message. We're just here to be active on the site and hide posts that violate the posting guidelines faster than the admins would be able to by themselves. But as I said, the admins still make all final decisions regarding post removals.
Fair enough :)
I've never spoken to any admin who currently works for GaG
all of the mods here are just terrible, awful people
Have you met/spoke to us all?
must agree here... lol... if they just want a forum for their friends/family, fine, learning web design skills isn't too taxing..
yeah i wish they'd just go and leave the rest of the people on this site alone they only serve to censor people or stir up bullshit and controversy. which is annoying because thats supposedly what they're there to prevent
the ass kissers gave this thumbs down.
Ah, thank you :)
If the mods left, posts would still get reported. If anything, hate the admins.
well im so sick of getting messages saying every little thing i say is somehow offensive or antagonistic. its getting to the point where its not like they could have possibly even had something to disagree with me about, they're just censoring me because its fun for them. like i could post an answer about how to install a sprinkler system for your home garden and they'd remove my comments and say it was offensive. its getting to the point where i just dont even want to bother answering peoples questions anymore
LoL I already knew this from my observation... Ain't that right my master @tolga? Sucks. Still no response from my lord.
What super powers does editor bring you? :p. Can you edit people's posts to say whatever? :p
Haha no, I wish I could edit posts though. Lol that just means the myTakes I write are instantly promoted rather than an admin having to promote them.
Oh pullease! Spare me the propaganda there's a lot of sexism here and ageism
How to find if someone is online instead of <1this?
so can i ask what do they do?
Help the admins moderate the site by hiding posts that violate the guidelines.
good work then x
yayy :)
number 1 honeybee woo!! :D
