There are three ways to make decisions: emotionally, rationally, and instinctively.

Most of the time instinct is used in moments only when it's necessary. If you're catching a ball or dodging a car. Etc. then you'll use your instinct.

Instinct is the superior method of decision-making.

When you’re living by instinct, then you will naturally enhance everything and everyone around you.

In other words, success will come naturally.

Trust is success. Why? Because learning is success. To learn you have to trust others have valuable lessons to teach.

When two people living through their instincts meet, they can't help but either hate or love each other. There's no in-between. As God Intended.

When you live by instinct, everything comes naturally. Common sense comes naturally, honesty comes naturally, risk-taking comes naturally. Because these behaviors were ingrained into your DNA over millennia.

Don't confuse your instincts for your heart, your emotions. Instinct is from the gut. Emotions are in the heart. Thinking is done in the brain. These are metaphors of course, but they are timeless metaphors.

Although the gut does send signals to the brain, and the heart does pump chemicals that cause emotions to the brain, so maybe they aren't metaphors.

When you think rational thoughts, you're at risk of making errors. The difference between you and a computer that can weigh a million options is instinct.

Rational capacity can help you overcome unhelpful impulses of instinct. However, 90% of the time, your thoughts should be ignored. and 99% of the time, your emotions should be ignored.

You were created knowing how to live and to thrive. Never think too deeply about life, simplicity is attractive, trustworthy, efficient, beautiful, elegant etc.

"Instinct is the superior method of decision-making." That is your conclusion, based on some unidentified assumptions. Most men prefer decisions based on logical reasoning and most women prefer decisions that are emotionally satisfying. Why is one automatically better than the other?

"Trust is success. Why? Because learning is success. To learn you have to trust others have valuable lessons to teach." Short sentences which are simple and make conclusions of this sort often go unchallenged and are simply accepted as true, but I question each of these statements.

I feel like he made a great case for both.

The second one is self explanatory.

The first one is pretty much the thesis for his my take and I'd say it is very well supported.

He isn't saying that most of us prefer or are good at instinctual decision making, but that it's more trustworthy because our logic can be flawed and our emotions can be misleading.

Logic says the car should stop before it hits you. Emotion says to panic.

But instinct says to jump out of the way.

He says Instinct is the way to make decisions because it is the most reliable.

That said, I don't entirely agree. Instinct can lead us to violence and selfishness. I think the best way is to weigh all three to find the best answer, but that is very difficult in practice.

In short, he is saying "trust your gut because your thoughts and feelings might steer you the wrong way"

It's a matter of opinion, but I think he made a great case for it.

@OlderAndWiser - Well said! This is one of those topics that can be insufferable to dispute. Because you have to spend most of the time explaining why you disagree with their presuppositions than actually getting to un unbiased truth of the matter. Which is time wasted.

@Lost_in_the_Woods - I like your takeaway. But I think I would just disagree on the order of process of it all or maybe certain definitions. 🤔 But I'm not too sure.

I say that because unless it's an unconscious bodily reaction to something that's objectively harmful to our survival, then our "gut" or "instincts" can be heavily biased. They can be highly dependant on a person's beliefs. And I say that because our fears & values really do shape how we see & interpret the world.

Sometimes it’s based on if it makes sense. An example is, one of my characters was originally gonna have a name written in Greek which meant “Series Creator”, but I remembered he speaks a completely different language and so I’d have to make up a name in Kiyagigakian. Oh, and another time is, I planned on making a Dicerosaur Robonian, but I then remembered that one of my Concept Characters destroyed the planet they live and would become extinct so I can’t do that. It’s probably for the best since Robonians are kinda hard to design.

No, how can you make such an equation? Instinct isn't me, it's not something I would ever rely upon, for anything. Properly thinking things through is always the better option, if only because half the time a person's instincts are just plain wrong.

Everytime people talk about the rational or the emotional. Then they suggest to go by rational one.
Instinctive topic is so overlooked.

It's honestly sad because they'll resent those that refuse to live sterile, boring, safe, and fake lives. (As bad as a selfish life). Resentment is how we get moralizing. It's how we get people criticizing winners as evil.

But you know, as life goes on, I see why he leaves it up to the reader.

It's really a personal question. How happy are you on the shore? How much do you fear the storm? And what do you have to lose that you might not get back?

I miss taking every risk, but I'd miss my cat a lot more if I left her behind and didn't get her back in one piece.

Sometimes in life, we have to make sacrifices. And sometimes the sacrifice isn't what we give up, but what we chose to miss out on to keep something more important.

I used to think boring was as bad as selfish, but as time goes on I think boring might be better than being smashed around and struck by lightning. At least some of the time.

Being and Knowing: Being as human beings are created with a Soul, Mind, and Body.

I learned not to make decisions through my emotions. Emotions can change all through out the day. My deep intuition has helped me lot with different situations.

I always trust my gut. Even when it is wrong, when you take a step back and analyze what went wrong it usually ends up being that I did not have the correct information to make the decision.

Instinct says to react, and do what needs to be done.

Emotional decision making when a car is coming towards you will be to scream.

Instinct will be to get out of the way.
