What does it mean when a guy says "I'll talk to you another time"?

He's my bestfriend and also the guy I'm crushing on. He knows about it and doesn't mind about it and teases me from time to time too. His girlfriend recently broke up with him for a shitty reason, and obviously caused him to be really sad about it. We've always been there for each other in any situation, and I guess this break up hit him kind of hard.. Yesterday night he told me that he didn't feel like talking to anyone and asked whether we could talk another time. I'm not trying to sound as if I need to talk to him 24/7, but as his bestfriend, I really want to be there for him at the moment.. I'm not asking what does this mean, I know that of course it means to talk to me another time.. I'm asking when this another time is, because whenever he says talk to you later, he expects me to text him back later, but this another time I don't know when to do it. Do I wait for him to talk to me first, or do I just start the conversation?

Just wait for him to contact you. He is going through a rough time and just needs to sort things out on his own. I you really need to let him know you are still around if he needs you (be prepared for a rebound type situation) just send him simple texts that do not need a responce. Like maybe Just letting you know I am here if you need me, Or let me know if you need anything. Things like that will let him know you care and are still there if needed.

He will sort himself out in time. As Ish said just send him a text every now and again seeing how he is going etc. If he feels like it he will talk.
