Why are guys mean to girls in front of their friends?

Men (not sure if I should use that word in this case, but never the less) who don't know who they are or who they want to be are like this. They care more about what their buddies think than what they really believe. They feel that what their friends might think is more of a threat than hurting the female in question. A mans deepest desire is to be respected by those around him. Emotionally immature men do not realize that getting respect from guys who have opposing morals is worthless. You should surround yourself with people that will encourage you to be a better person. Buying flowers to make your girl feel special may result in ridicule from the 'boys', but disrespecting her and pretending not to care about her feelings gets you a high five. Lots of men will realize as they mature that having the respect of a smart, loving, supportive woman is infinitely more valuable and uplifting than having the respect of mindless self-centered men.

My advice to guys is to choose your friends more wisely. You wanna be around people that will add to you life and won't pressure you to do things that you don't believe in and will regret later. If your best friend dogs you about having a girlfriend because he won't have a 'wingman' anymore and is always pressuring you into situations where you may be tempted to cheat... Please realize that he is a selfish bastard and has no respect for the women that you find special enough to start a relationship with and you should be greatly offended by that. Find a new best friend. ( I also realize that there maybe cases where this new girlfriend is a bitch and a good buddy will tell you that you deserve better and rightly so encourage that you try to meet other women).

And girls... When a guy treats you differently around his friends, whether it be better or worse, realize this as a RED FLAG especially if you desire a long-term committed relationship. You want a guy who gets his validation form himself not from his friends.

Yeah my best friends brother does that to me. When it's just us he's nice or doesn't even bother me. When his friends come over he's always picking on me and saying stuff to me. Then they leave and he's back to his original self. I think they try to impress their friends. I don't really know why they do it.

i always call behavior like this 'man code' like you have somethign to prove, that you're really tough or something. That you're incredibly bada--. I guess he's tryign to prove to his friends kidna like 'i don't give a sh-- I'm so bada--!' They might think it's funny, so he might want to impress them too. I think that it really depends on the guy tho, like my friend is incredibly nice to his little sister, even when I'm around, its really sweet.

Some guys like to put up fronts in front of their friends to show their tough. Don't know why, people should be real all the time and not hide behind any kind of fake persona.
